2026 Olympics: Candid Photos of Athletes That Deserve a Gold Medal

It’s game on at the 2026 Olympics.

The Winter Games in Milano and Cortina will be held from February 6th to 22nd, featuring over 2,800 athletes from more than 90 countries all competing for gold medals.

This year’s Winter Olympics, a historic event co-hosted by Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo in Northern Italy for the first time ever, will include a record 116 competitions across 16 different sports like figure skating, ice hockey, snowboarding, curling, and luge.

Even before the spectacular Opening Ceremony on February 7th, the event was already buzzing with activity thanks to qualifying rounds and training sessions.

Lindsey Vonn connected with teammates Isabella Wright and Mary Bocock on February 3rd, just three days after tearing her ACL. The reunion was full of support, with lots of hugs and high-fives.

Lindsey Vonn explained to reporters that she’s worked hard to prepare for the Games, but a recent crash has changed her outlook. She acknowledged that her chances of success are now different than they were before the accident, according to NBC News.

She continued, “But I know there’s still a chance, and as long as there’s a chance, I will try.”

Lindsey Vonn is scheduled to compete starting February 8th. Meanwhile, the U.S. mixed doubles curling team improved their chances of winning a medal by winning matches against Norway and Switzerland on February 5th.

The U.S. women’s hockey team won their February 5th game against Czechia with a score of 5-1. This game was particularly historic for Laila Edwards, who became the first Black woman to play hockey for the U.S. in the Olympics.

Her mother, Charone Gray-Edwards, told NBC News she was incredibly proud. While acknowledging her daughter’s skill as a hockey player, she emphasized the significance of this moment: her daughter is the first Black woman to achieve this milestone, which is a remarkable accomplishment.
