Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball is famous for its incredibly strong characters, capable of destroying planets with ease. The series features exciting, high-stakes battles against villains who constantly challenge the heroes. The main character, Goku, is a gifted martial artist who consistently grows stronger throughout the story. After achieving the Super Saiyan transformation, he continued to train and reach almost god-like levels of power. His amazing abilities in Dragon Ball Super are a testament to his hard work and passion for fighting.
Goku loves a good fight, but he doesn’t always win. He’s lost battles before, but he always comes back stronger and more determined.
5) Goku Wasn’t Strong Enough to Defeat Cell

Goku, always eager to battle strong foes, unexpectedly stepped up to fight Perfect Cell. They had clashed before the Cell Games began, but Goku wasn’t able to win. Despite intense training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, he couldn’t become stronger than Cell. Realizing he couldn’t win, Goku decided his son, Gohan, should fight instead, as Gohan had already surpassed them both in power.
4) Majin Vegeta Got The Upper Hand Against Goku

Vegeta has always seen Goku as his biggest rival and constantly pushed himself to become stronger. This drive became risky during the Buu Saga when he let Babidi control him, gaining a significant power increase. The resulting fight between Majin Vegeta and Goku was surprisingly long and intense. Throughout the battle, Vegeta didn’t know Goku could transform into a Super Saiyan 3, a powerful form Goku held back from using because it quickly exhausts his energy. Even though Vegeta technically won with a sneaky move, it was ultimately a loss for Goku.
3) Beerus Didn’t Even Use His Full Power Against Goku

Beerus journeyed across the universe searching for the Super Saiyan God he’d foreseen in a dream, and ultimately found Goku. With help from Shenron and other Saiyans, Goku achieved this powerful new form and agreed to fight Beerus. But even as a god, Goku couldn’t defeat Beerus, the God of Destruction of Universe 7. Despite his best efforts to defend Earth, Beerus won the battle with surprising ease.
2) Zamasu Forced Goku to Flee

When the villain Zamasu threatened to wipe out humanity in Future Trunks’ timeline, Goku and Vegeta traveled to the future to intervene. Zamasu had used the Super Dragon Balls to become immortal and then switched bodies with Goku, gaining immense power. This allowed him to nearly conquer the world, and even Goku couldn’t defeat him initially, forcing a retreat. Ultimately, Goku had to ask Master Zeno for help, resulting in the complete erasure of that timeline to stop Zamasu’s destruction.
1) Goku Didn’t Win The Tournament of Power

The Tournament of Power brought together many strong fighters from different universes, but Jiren proved to be Goku’s biggest challenge. Determined to save his universe, Goku kept surpassing his limits, even after achieving his Ultra Instinct transformation. Near the end of the tournament, Goku, Frieza, and Android 17 worked together to fight Jiren. Ultimately, Universe 7 won, though Android 17 was the last fighter remaining, not Goku.
