Channel 4 announced that its popular detective series, Patience, will be back for a third season following strong viewership numbers.
Ella Maisy Purvis stars as Patience Evans, a brilliant criminologist on the autism spectrum. Previously, Patience worked behind the scenes in the records department of the York Police.
Everything shifted when Detective Inspector Bea Metcalf (Laura Fraser) recognized her talent for analysis and started including her in real investigations.
Patience’s promising new role hit a snag when DI Metcalf left, and DI Frankie Monroe (played by Jessica Hynes) took over. Monroe was initially distant and didn’t agree with the special access Patience had previously been given to investigate crime scenes.
Throughout the past eight episodes, Patience and DI Monroe have developed a stronger connection. The upcoming third season will continue this trend, showing them as close colleagues and even friends.
I’m really intrigued by the new show! It seems like it centers around Patience, who’s trying to connect with her half-sister, Joy, after years of being apart. But it’s not just about family; she’s also determined to find out what really happened to her father. It sounds like a really compelling story about family secrets and finding your way.

In upcoming episodes, Patience will explore a new relationship, and Tom Lewis will return as her love interest, Elliot Scott.
Don’t expect any unexpected departures from the show, as actress Hynes will be returning for season 3, joining the regular cast members: Jake (Nathan Welsh), Calvin (Mark Benton), Douglas (Adrian Rawlins), Will (Ali Ariaie), and Dr. Parsons (Liza Sadovy).
Fans have something extra to look forward to: season 3 of Patience will be its longest yet, with 10 episodes. Previous seasons had six and eight episodes, respectively.

Channel 4 is excited to bring back the popular series Patience for a third season. Polly Scates, Channel 4’s Head of Acquisitions, said viewers have really connected with the show and are eager to follow Patience’s next cases in York.
Jo McGrath, from Eagle Eye Drama, said viewers around the world have really connected with the show Patience. It’s great to see it doing so well in the UK, currently ranking as the 8th most-watched program across all streaming services, and it’s still running!
Honestly, the real strength of this show is the cast – Ella Maisy Purvis is incredible, and everyone around her is fantastic. Huge credit to director Maarten Moerkerke and the whole production team too, they really knocked it out of the park. The best part? They’re all coming back for another season! We’re getting a ten-episode extended run, and I, for one, am thrilled!
While the TV series Patience is primarily filmed on location in York, some indoor scenes are shot in Belgium. This choice was inspired by the French/Belgian drama Astrid et Raphaëlle, which served as the basis for Patience.
Patience is available to stream on Channel 4.
