Honestly, heading into that Nintendo Direct showcase last month, I wasn’t sure what they’d announce. It seemed like a lot of anime games and smaller titles, but as an RPG player, I was really happy with what they did show. They hinted at a bunch of big RPGs coming to the Switch 2! We’re talking new games and ports of some awesome titles we’ve seen recently. It sounds like the Switch 2 is going to become a serious hub for action RPGs in 2026, which is amazing if you like taking your adventures on the go like I do.
The recent Nintendo Direct didn’t reveal much about Nintendo’s own upcoming games, but it announced a surprising number of new role-playing games (RPGs) coming to the console this year. I’ve put together a list of the biggest confirmed RPGs for the Switch 2 in 2026, as shown during the presentation, so we can all get excited about what’s on the way.
6) Digimon Story: Time Stranger
Ever since the newest Digimon Story game was announced, fans have been hoping it would come to the Switch 2. The recent Nintendo Direct confirmed that it is! The role-playing game was originally released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in October 2025 and proved to be very popular, showing the continued strong interest in Digimon. Now, players will be able to experience the game on both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 starting July 10th.
As a Digimon fan, I have to say this game is amazing! You can pre-order it on the Switch 2 for $59.99. They’re also offering Digital Deluxe and Digital Ultimate editions. And good news for us pre-orderers – we’ll get all the same bonus costumes and Digimon to train that people got for pre-ordering on other consoles!
5) Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
The highly anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 3rd, following the successful January release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on the console. Square Enix confirmed the news, delighting fans who were eager to continue the story beyond Midgar on the Switch 2.
You can now pre-order Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for the Switch 2 for $49.99, with a Digital Deluxe edition also available. The game features a significantly expanded world, and it will be interesting to see how it performs on the Switch 2. With both Rebirth and the first game releasing on the console, it suggests we might hear news about the third part of the series soon.
4) Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok
Originally launched in 2024, Granblue Fantasy: Relink is a well-made, but often overlooked, Japanese role-playing game (JRPG). It was recently announced during the February Nintendo Direct that the game is coming to the Switch 2 later this year, and it won’t just be the original version. An upgrade called Endless Ragnarok will add new cooperative quests, more challenging bosses, and a brand new single-player mode.
The Endless Ragnarok update is coming to all versions of the game, and it will also mark the debut of Granblue Fantasy: Relink on the new Switch 2 console. Look for it on July 9th. Currently, you can’t pre-order the game on the Nintendo eShop.
3) Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn Edition
The popular action RPG, originally released in 2021 for most gaming systems excluding the Nintendo Switch, is now coming to the Switch 2. It will include the Beyond the Dawn expansion. This game features a brand new story within the Tales of universe, so you don’t need to have played previous games to enjoy it.
The expanded version of Tales of Arise, called Beyond the Dawn Edition, will be available on the Switch 2 starting May 22nd. This edition includes a new story, additional dungeons, and new items like weapons and cosmetic options. Pre-orders aren’t currently available, but Bandai Namco says it should be possible to order soon.
2) Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition
I was surprised to see Bethesda featured in the recent Nintendo Direct. Todd Howard announced that several of their games are coming to the new Nintendo Switch 2, starting with Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition. This updated version of the popular 2015 role-playing game was previously released on other consoles in late 2025, and now it’s available on the Switch 2, along with Skyrim.
The Anniversary Edition of Fallout 4 includes the original game and all six of its official add-ons. Following Bethesda’s usual practice, it will also feature Creation Club content. Releasing on February 24th, Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition will be priced at $59.99 for Switch 2 – the same price as on other gaming systems.
1) The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered
Considering the problems Oblivion Remastered had when it launched on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2025, I was surprised it’s coming to Switch 2 so quickly. That said, I’m always happy to play an Elder Scrolls game on Nintendo Switch – I actually finished my last Skyrim playthrough there. I really enjoy Oblivion Remastered, even with the occasional funny glitch where characters start dancing unexpectedly. It will be interesting to see how well the game performs on the Switch 2.
The remastered version of Oblivion is coming to the new Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, although the exact release date hasn’t been announced yet. It’s expected to cost around $49.99, similar to other platforms, which is a great price for this classic RPG, especially considering how much playtime it offers.
