Even after 10 years, Pokemon Go stays engaging thanks to its frequent events, which always give players a reason to return and catch new Pokemon. This weekend’s Catch Mastery event featuring Oricorio started at 10 AM local time on February 7th and lasted only until 8 PM. However, it’s quickly becoming the least popular event of the year.

Catch Mastery events happen regularly in Pokemon Go, and usually focus on catching a specific Pokemon. This time, the featured Pokemon is Oricorio. At first glance, this might seem great, as Oricorio has different forms depending on where you are in the world, and the event’s promotional image showed all four of these forms, hinting at a chance to get them all. However, there’s a catch: the Timed Research during the event gives you many opportunities to catch Oricorio, but only the version that’s normally found in your region.

Pokémon Go uses region-exclusive Pokémon to motivate players to trade. If you make friends in different locations, you can trade for Pokémon you can’t normally find in your area, completing your Pokédex. Sometimes, Niantic will briefly make these regional Pokémon available outside their usual habitats, often during special events – Flabebe is a prime example. However, the recent Oricorio Catch Mastery event didn’t include this opportunity for players.

In Pokemon Go, Oricorio comes in four different styles, and each one is exclusive to certain parts of the world. Baile Style is available in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Pom-Pom Style appears in the Americas, while Pa’u Style can be found in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and the Caribbean. Finally, Sensu Style is only found in the Asia-Pacific region. This means that during the Oricorio Catch Mastery event, players are mostly encountering just one particular form of this dancing Pokemon.

The event includes a free Timed Research line with simple tasks like throwing three Nice Throws and catching three Starly. Completing these tasks rewards you with encounters featuring Oricorio – and a lot of them! This is good news if you’re still trying to find a Shiny version of your local Oricorio, but unfortunately, you won’t have a chance to collect the other three regional forms. Many players, including people I know, are already getting tired of seeing the same Oricorio form repeatedly. One Redditor summed it up by saying the event would have been amazing if all four Oricorio variants were available.
