He later became a founding member of the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This meant he, along with Chris Evans’ Captain America and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, would be prominently featured and receive top billing in any Avengers movie they appeared in.

Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Tony Stark ended with his character’s death in Avengers: Endgame, which appeared to conclude his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the latest film, Doomsday, still features Captain America (Steve Rogers) and Thor prominently, it moves forward without Tony Stark, acknowledging Downey Jr.’s character is no longer part of the story.
The latest Avengers film, Avengers: Doomsday, arrives in theaters on December 18th. Directed by The Russo Brothers, the movie features a new team of Earth’s greatest heroes who must team up with characters from different universes to face the powerful villain, Victor Von Doom.

But honestly, I think it’s smart they’re holding back. It feels like a better approach, and it’s definitely got me even more curious about the movie.
Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the Marvel universe as Doctor Doom generated a lot of excitement. The announcement of his involvement was big news for fans, and they’re eager to see him in the role.
For now, the initial trailers should focus on introducing the other characters who will be part of this team-up across the multiverse. While revealing Doctor Doom will happen eventually, Marvel can hold off on that surprise for later.
It’ll be fascinating to see how much longer Marvel keeps the main villain a secret. They still need to showcase several superhero teams in their promotional materials.
