Today is an exciting day, especially with the release of the second part of the Crimson Desert Features Overview! The first video explored the story and world – introducing characters like the Greymanes, explaining how they become separated, and revealing Kliff’s motivations. This new video gets straight to the action, focusing on combat and how your character improves. We’ve already seen bits and pieces of the combat system over the last couple of years – like Kliff unexpectedly knocking enemies out or throwing them off cliffs! But what else do you need to know about fighting? Let’s jump right in, starting with what I think is the best part…
Nitoryu
Over the past few months, players have spotted Kliff using various close-combat weapons – from swords and shields to spears and even pitchforks. Now, it’s confirmed he can also fight with two weapons at once! A quick scene showing him on a mountainside reveals he’s wielding a pair of blades, and they appear to be distinct from each other. This raises the possibility of mixing and matching different sword types, which would be great to see. But even just watching him skillfully slice through enemies with two blades is very satisfying.
Damiane and Oongka
While the developer hasn’t officially announced it, a look at the character selection screen strongly suggests that Damiane and Oongka will be playable characters. We didn’t get to see details about their abilities yet, but we did get a glimpse of what those abilities are. It’s good to finally have some confirmation after all the hints!
Damiane’s Weapons
We also got a look at the variety of weapons Damiane can use. She originally appeared with a Greatsword and pistol, but she can switch to a rapier and small shield for faster attacks. For long-distance combat, she can use a musket that fires a powerful shot after a brief charge-up. Later on, she returns to her Greatsword, delivering incredibly strong and impactful blows.
Oongka’s Weapons
So far, Oongka has primarily used a two-handed axe, but towards the end of the game, in the Crimson Desert, he also wields a large hammer against several soldiers. Like the axe, it’s a two-handed weapon that can powerfully slam enemies together. By charging it up and swinging with force, you can send multiple opponents flying.
Unique Armor for Damiane and Oongka

We got a quick glimpse in the previous update, but it’s now clear that each playable character has their own unique armor. Damiane was shown wearing a fancier outfit with a white cape, gold arm and shoulder pieces, and a gold crown. Another character has similar shoulder and arm pieces, but with a completely black outfit. Considering how many different outfits and armor sets we’ve already seen for Kliff, it makes you wonder how many total options there will be for all the characters.
Izuna Drop and Leap Slams
Damiane has a fantastic new combat move: she delivers a spinning kick, quickly follows up by grabbing the enemy, and then performs an Izuna Drop, reminiscent of the Ninja Gaiden series. It’s a smooth and deadly combo that leads directly into a finishing move. Oongka is equally impressive, able to bodyslam opponents like Kliff or powerfully leap around, slamming his massive axe – a brutal but incredibly effective tactic, particularly when facing multiple enemies.
Fists of Fury
Although Kliff can only carry two weapons at once, he’s still a formidable fighter. He can do more than just basic attacks – he can clothesline enemies, perform shoulder tackles, even deliver a chokeslam or backbreaker. Simple moves like a knee lift can be chained into powerful thrust kicks, and he’s capable of unleashing a flurry of punches that would impress even the most skilled fighters.
What really caught my attention is that fighting with your bare hands actually has its own damage stat! It makes me wonder if you can train those skills up even further, or maybe unlock some upgrades for a character who really prefers going in fists flying. But honestly, even just being able to switch between swords, shields, spears, and bare hands so smoothly is amazing – I saw Kliff block an attack with his sword and shield, then immediately switch to his spear for a counter-attack, and it was awesome!
Element-ary, Of Course
Kliff doesn’t just defeat enemies with swords – he uses the power of the elements! He can unleash devastating attacks like a lightning strike that hits multiple enemies at once. The game features a variety of elemental powers, including fire, ice, wind, and potentially nature-based magic that creates visual trails. Don’t want to burn or freeze foes? Use wind to launch yourself into the air for a powerful dive kick, sending enemies flying on impact.
Mounted Combat

We’ve already seen some of the powerful mounts in the game, like the Dwarven mech and Kliff’s dragon. There are even options like bears! But you don’t always need to find your own mount. You can actually steal them! Use the grapple to pull enemies off their mounts and take control yourself. What’s really cool about riding a mount is that Kliff doesn’t just tell it to attack – he also fights alongside it with his sword.
Reset Stats
The game’s Skills menu didn’t reveal much about how different skill upgrades work, except for one that boosts stamina. However, there’s a button to both improve and reset your stats. This suggests you’ll be able to get back the resources spent on skills – likely Abyss Artifacts – and redistribute them. This could let you customize your build, maybe focusing on health instead of stamina for a more durable character. If so, you’ll have the freedom to experiment with different skills and create builds that suit your playstyle.
Learning From the Best
Kliff learned to fish by watching someone else, which was much better than trying to force them to teach him. This idea goes beyond just completing tasks – it’s about gaining entirely new abilities. For example, Kliff can learn the Force Palm by watching a holographic demonstration. Even cooler, you can pick up skills during battles – so if an enemy does a cool move, like a flying attack, you can learn it yourself and use it!
New Flying Gadget
Kliff is currently the only character we’ve seen with wings that let him fly, but other characters have their own ways of getting around. For example, Damiane uses a propeller-like device to glide and even fly faster. It makes you wonder if Kliff will get access to something similar, or if Oongka will have a unique gadget of his own. Either way, there are plenty of options for traveling across the world of Pywel.
Top-Notch Swords

Looking for stronger weapons? You can buy them from vendors all over Pywel, but that’s just the first step. Take your new weapons to the Blacksmith to improve their attack power. Upgrading requires materials, which you can get by mining, defeating tough bosses, hunting animals, completing quests, or exploring hidden areas.
Abyss Gear
You can also customize your weapons with Abyss Gear, which adds special effects like faster attacks, a higher chance to land critical hits, and extra damage against powerful enemies. Based on past trends, the most powerful Abyss Gear will likely be dropped by the strongest enemies you defeat.
Mecha Pterodactyls?
After revealing a pilotable mech and a mechanical dragon in Crimson Desert, you’d think there couldn’t be any more surprises. But the game also features what appears to be a group of robotic pterodactyls as bosses – a pretty wild sight! And if that wasn’t enough, players can battle a massive, energy-filled serpent. Compared to that, the giant white spider found in the ruins seems almost easy. Still, who knows what other challenges await in Pywel?
