The idea of escaping to a peaceful island and building a community with friendly Pokémon is really appealing, especially when life gets stressful. The director of Pokémon Pokopia clearly felt the same way, and has created a game that offers a lot beyond the main story – it’s designed to be incredibly engaging, and it looks fantastic too.
Ahead of Pokopia’s March 2026 release on the Switch 2, Takuto Edagawa spoke with IGN about how long it might take to finish the game. He explained that the design focuses on building and living in a world with Pokémon, and while the average playthrough will likely take 20 to 40 hours, it will vary depending on how players approach the game. He also hinted that there’s plenty to do even after the credits roll.
It really depends on what you’re asking about when you say ‘contents,’ but I think players will want to keep playing and will be encouraged to do so.
It’s understandable to think that the game is mostly about relaxing and enjoying life with your Pokémon on your island, especially since that’s what you do after convincing them to join you. For long-time fans, this new game could be a welcome break from battling, and the possibility of even more content after finishing the main story is exciting. We might see things like rare Legendary Pokémon appearing, or new ways to personalize your Pokémon companions.
Pokémon Pokopia is slated for a March 5 release on the Nintendo Switch 2.
