The most compelling stories, particularly dramas and mysteries, often unfold in seemingly normal neighborhoods. It’s surprising to think that behind perfect lawns and friendly waves, dark secrets can hide – shows like Desperate Housewives and Only Murders in the Building prove that. Now, bestselling author Sarah Gailey and artist Haining are exploring those hidden lives in a new comic series from BOOM! Studios, and ComicBook has a first look.
The first issue of Neighborhood Watch arrives in stores on April 8th, bringing together Hugo Award-winning writer Sarah Gailey (Know Your Station, Eat the Rich) and artist John Haining (Absolute Flash) in a gripping mystery. The story explores how well we truly know the people around us. John Haining will provide the main cover art, with variant covers by artists Suspiria Vilchez, Jenny Frison, and Tula Lotay.
A Dead Community Leader Makes Two Opposing Communities Unlikely Allies

The first issue of Neighborhood Watch introduces a mystery: Jill Hewett, a community leader and the wife of a police officer, has been found shot in a tunnel linking the upscale Willow Haven gated community with the more open-minded Open Arms Collective. When the leaders of both communities discover her body simultaneously, suspicion immediately falls on members of the other. Now, they must reluctantly team up to investigate, uncovering hidden secrets and trying to determine who killed Jill—and what they hoped to gain. The mystery deepens as they wonder what Jill was even doing in the tunnel to begin with.

Based on the initial details, Neighborhood Watch #1 promises a compelling story about two communities with clashing beliefs thrown into a high-pressure situation. It’s likely there will be misunderstandings between them. Willow Haven seems extremely organized and focused on surveillance, while the Open Arms Collective appears more compassionate and community-focused, at least initially. As the mystery of Jill’s death unfolds, it will be fascinating to discover the secrets hidden within both groups and uncover who is responsible.
The first issue of Neighborhood Watch will be available for purchase on April 8th from BOOM! Studios. If you want to ensure you get a copy, your orders are due to retailers by February 23rd.
