Rebecca Gayheart always kept Eric Dane close, even though they weren’t together.
Before his death on February 19th following a struggle with ALS, the former partner of the Grey’s Anatomy actor remained very close and provided him with support during his illness.
Rebecca told TopMob News in April, soon after TopMob publicly shared his diagnosis, that they are best friends and excellent co-parents, emphasizing how close they are.
Although Billie, 15, and Georgia, 14’s parents separated in 2017, they remained legally married. Rebecca explained that they found a way to stay a family, which she believes is very positive for both their children and themselves.
Even though Rebecca and Eric are no longer together, she maintains that their relationship was very solid and meaningful to her.
The 54-year-old explained that they don’t see the end of their relationship as a failure, but rather as a chapter closing. They consider the 15 years they spent together and the two children they raised to be a great success, and that’s how they choose to view it. While they are no longer together, they remain married.
Rebecca acknowledged that some people found her relationship with Eric hard to understand, but they became even more connected after the Euphoria actor received a diagnosis.
In an essay for The Cut, she wrote that Eric understands she always wants what’s best for him and will always try to do right by him. She also knows he feels the same way about her. Because of that, she wants to do everything she can to make things better or easier for him throughout this experience.
That meant spending a lot more time together amid his ALS battle.

Rebecca explained they want to make the most of the time he has available. He’s prioritized spending time with his family, and she’s dedicated to helping him do that.
Rebecca said caring for her ex-partner while he was seriously ill profoundly changed her life.
Learning about Eric’s diagnosis has completely shifted my perspective. Now, I often find myself thinking about the struggles of others, even people I don’t know. It makes me realize everyone is facing their own challenges.
