Chloe Okuno’s first feature film, Watcher, will soon be removed from Netflix. The psychological thriller, starring Maika Monroe and a Sundance Film Festival nominee, will no longer be available to stream after February 25th, giving subscribers only five days to watch it. The movie follows a young woman who feels isolated after moving to Bucharest with her husband, and begins to suspect a mysterious neighbor might be a serial killer.

The story centers on Julia, who believes she’s being stalked, but her husband and the police dismiss her fears as paranoia.

The horror film Watcher builds suspense through a slow burn, using the eerie and foreign setting of Romania to emphasize the character’s growing isolation, paranoia, and vulnerability. Director Okuno crafts a truly immersive experience with long, unbroken shots, shadowy visuals, and masterful sound design, creating a consistently tense and unsettling atmosphere. Monroe delivers a standout performance as Julia, conveying her character’s fear and loneliness primarily through reactions and subtle expressions.
