Marvel Snap/FX’s Archer Artist Assembles Top-Tier Comic Talent For “I Feel Doomed”

While major comic publishers like Marvel, DC, Image, and Dark Horse are well-known, creators are constantly finding new ways to share their work. Artist Joseph Karg, who’s worked on Marvel Snap and the FX show Archer, is launching a new anthology comic called I Feel Doomed. It brings together talented writers and artists to explore the humorous and often unsettling aspects of modern life. Karg has started a Kickstarter campaign to support the series, and we at egmr.ru recently spoke with him about the comic, the comic book industry, and his career.

Joseph Karg has a strong background in the comic and game world, having designed many of the cards for the popular mobile game, Marvel Snap. He also worked as an artist on FX’s Archer and later began teaching, passing on his creative knowledge to others. Recently, he created a heartfelt story for his daughter, Dear Bernadette, and is excited to share the process behind his latest work, I Feel Doomed.

I realized I wanted to create a comic, and Dear Bernadette was a way to work through my own anxieties while also preparing to make a graphic novel. I originally planned I Feel Doomed as a short story, but then my students started talking about comics, and I thought it could be a good project for them too. One of them even suggested the title, I Feel Doomed, which felt right because it captures how many of us are feeling right now. The stories range from really dark, dealing with things like A.I. and the rise of extremist ideologies, to surprisingly funny. Ultimately, the comic explores how we cope with the feeling that things are hopeless.

Creating this community has been a really healing experience for everyone involved, helping us process difficult emotions. It’s rooted in the power of art. I started by inviting students, and then brought in concept artists I admire. For example, Rustam Hasanov is an incredibly talented artist – he’s worked on famous projects like Jay-Z’s ‘Story of O.J.’, the opening sequence of ‘Game of Thrones’, and Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pinocchio’. Interestingly, this will be his first comic book project! We’re also thrilled to have Thierry Martin, a fantastic French artist known for his work on Batman, contributing to the project.

As a huge comic fan, I’m really excited to see how well the Kickstarter for I Feel Doomed is doing! It absolutely crushed its original $7,500 goal and has almost doubled that amount. The creator, Karg, is making a final push before the campaign ends on February 28th to unlock even more goodies for backers. And the best part? We won’t have to wait too long to read it! The digital comic is planned for release in May, and the beautiful hardcover will ship in July. If you’re curious about what it’s all about, you can find the official description online.

With over thirty stories, I Feel Doomed explores the widespread anxiety felt by a generation raised amidst instability. The collection covers topics like growing authoritarianism, climate change worries, loneliness, exhaustion, and the pressure to appear okay. Each story transforms these anxieties into something odd, humorous, disturbing, and ultimately, very familiar. It’s a look at how a generation deals with difficult times through dark humor and a lot of caffeine.

The comic features a talented team of writers and artists with experience on popular titles. The creators behind I Feel Doomed have previously worked on DC’s Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn, Marvel’s Power Pack, and comic book versions of Rick and Morty and Star Trek: Lower Decks. Here’s a look at who’s contributing to the first volume of the anthology.

This collection showcases work from a talented group of creators, including Miki Montlló, known for Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn, Thierry Martin, who worked on Le Roman de Renart, and Claudio Acciari, famous for The Prince of Egypt and The Road to El Dorado. Also featured are Jonathan Edwards (Mufasa at Warner Bros.), Rustam Hasanov (Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon), Chris Bivins (Marvel Snap! and Stargirl), Danielle Corsetto (Girls With Slingshots), Dustin Harbin (Koyama Press and Dinos That Drive), June Brigman (Power Pack), Adam Ford (Rick and Morty, Star Trek: Lower Decks), Jake Reeves (Titmouse, Royal Crackers), and up-and-coming CalArts storyteller Claire Seckler.
