The world of WWE has had a dynamic year, and the road to WrestleMania is already heating up as established stars fight for their place on the biggest stage, and new talent aims to break through. WWE 2K26 aims to recreate both the year’s highlights and future moments with its largest roster yet, building on the strong foundation of WWE 2K25. After getting an early look at the game, it seems like WWE 2K26 is shaping up to be one of the best installments in the series so far.
WWE 2K26 is adding a lot of new content, including four new match types – Inferno, I Quit, 3 Stages of Hell, and Dumpster – plus a significantly improved Create-A-Superstar mode. MyGM will also let you manage even more superstars, and the game boasts a roster of over 400 wrestlers. You’ll also find new ways to engage with matches, both during and outside the ring. With a showcase focused on CM Punk, there’s a lot to take in, so let’s highlight the biggest changes.
In-Ring Gameplay Continues To Be The Heart of WWE 2K

WWE 2K26 still focuses on the core wrestling experience – the matches themselves and the arena atmosphere. The latest installment adds more ways to connect with fans and control your superstar’s presence, from the entrance ramp to the final bell. You can now trigger pyro effects whenever you want during your entrance, and actively engage with the crowd – playing the role of a hero or villain – as you make your way to the ring.
As soon as the match begins, you can activate visual effects like flames from the ring posts. For a better view of the action, you can easily switch to a third-person camera, creating a cinematic feel that mimics a televised wrestling event. This extends to the pre-match moments, where you can start classic wrestling scenarios. These include the iconic face-off, where both wrestlers meet in the center for a dramatic camera angle before the bell rings. You can also quickly rush your opponent, approach cautiously, or build energy, potentially leading to handshakes or a grappling exchange.
Once the match starts, the characters move and animate much more smoothly than before. Everything feels fluid and natural, a noticeable improvement over last year’s game, which sometimes felt a little stiff. This time, those awkward movements are gone, both inside and outside the ring, and even during high-flying moves.

The stamina system has been improved this year. Last year, it often felt like a constant struggle just to manage your stamina during a match. Now, while it still prevents you from repeatedly using powerful moves, it’s less limiting. This allows for more exciting combos and quicker reactions to your opponent’s attacks, giving you a better chance to stay in control.
New Additions Make Big Impacts

New features are only worthwhile if they truly enhance the gaming experience, making it more engaging and fun to play again and again. Thankfully, the updates in WWE 2K26 are already making a big difference, starting with the commentary team. Michael Cole is back, now joined by Wade Barrett and Booker T, and they significantly improve the atmosphere. Booker T, in particular, brings a lot of energy and personality to the matches.
The new match types are a great addition to the game. While the Dumpster Match is similar to the Casket Match, the other three feel fresh and original. The Inferno Match is interesting because it doesn’t fully activate until both players have performed enough impressive moves. Once it does, the match changes – you can’t leave the ring, and the ending works a bit like a Royal Rumble.

The new ‘I Quit’ match adds a unique element to the game. Once you try to force your opponent to quit, you have to actively increase their resistance by hitting timed button prompts within shrinking green zones. You can also use weapon submissions to intensify the pain and create a more authentic WWE-style experience, with chair submissions being particularly impactful. The ‘I Quit’ match feels surprisingly different from other match types. While ‘3 Stages of Hell’ doesn’t introduce a brand new mechanic, its tournament-style format and how the stages connect still make it stand out.

One of the biggest improvements in WWE 2K26 is the backstage brawl mode. While it was okay in the previous game, it felt a bit limited. This year, the developers removed a lot of the invisible barriers, making the fights much more chaotic and fun. I was really impressed – it’s gone from a dull experience to genuinely hilarious. I even saw Bron Breakker fall from an upper level and crash into a spotlight! It felt like a moment WWE would save for a premium live event. Plus, there’s a brand new level in the Scrapyard that takes the chaos to another level entirely. The fun factor has definitely been significantly increased.
The game features a huge roster of over 400 wrestlers, pulling from Raw, SmackDown, NXT, AAA, and classic WWE Legends. This year’s version includes many popular NXT stars that fans requested. The graphics are noticeably improved, and while not every character is a perfect match to their real-life counterpart, the game boasts some incredibly realistic recreations of wrestlers like Damian Priest, Oba Femi, Sol Ruca, Joe Hendry, and Raquel Rodriguez, among others.

Okay, so the game isn’t perfect, but honestly, it’s so good! My biggest issue is grabbing weapons – the area you need to be in to actually pick one up feels a little too small, and that tiny delay can really pull you out of the moment during a match. Also, while the movement inside the ring is fantastic, it doesn’t quite feel as smooth when you’re fighting backstage. I guess that’s almost unavoidable, though, unless they made that whole mode a separate game. And a few of the wrestlers could use updated models, but honestly, those are just small complaints about an otherwise amazing experience. I really enjoyed it!
WWE 2K26 will release on March 13, 2026.
