4 PlayStation Trilogies That Deserve Remakes After God of War

PlayStation boasts a fantastic lineup of long-running game series, many of which started with the very first PlayStation. While Sony often revisits these classics, the upcoming remakes of the original God of War trilogy from Santa Monica Studio are particularly thrilling. The series initially launched on PlayStation 2 and was reimagined on PlayStation 4, taking Kratos to a new world inspired by Norse mythology. These remakes will let fans experience the original games in a fresh way, and it begs the question: which other PlayStation trilogy is most deserving of a similar, large-scale remake?

Games like The Last of Us, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Ghost of Tsushima have made PlayStation a leader in the gaming world. However, before these hits, several classic series were key to building PlayStation’s success. While many have been forgotten or feel outdated now, fully remaking these four trilogies could remind players just how impactful they once were, similar to the recent God of War remake. These deserve a second look.

4) Jak & Daxter

The Jak & Daxter trilogy from Naughty Dog is still considered one of Sony’s most creative platforming adventures. The first game was revolutionary for the PlayStation 2, offering a vast, open world to explore without loading screens. Its bright colors, memorable characters, and smooth controls made it an immediate hit. A remake could recapture that feeling of discovery with improved graphics and realistic physics, all while preserving the original game’s unique personality.

Many still admire how Jak II and Jak 3 took the series in a bolder direction. The games grew up alongside their players, exploring more serious storylines, offering deeper combat, and featuring larger, more open environments. These changes really tested the limits of the PlayStation 2, and a remake with today’s technology could finally bring the series’ original vision to life. The shooting, driving, and platforming could be perfected, creating something exceptional. These games proved that 3D platformers didn’t have to be just bright and cheerful – they could tackle more mature themes too.

Now that Naughty Dog is famous for big, cinematic games, it’s a great time for a new team to look at the Jak & Daxter series. Remaking the original trilogy would introduce a new generation to a world that many PlayStation fans consider a classic. There’s still strong demand for Jak & Daxter, and it’s been too long since we’ve seen a new game. The popularity of Astro Bot shows people still love a well-made 3D platformer, and Jak & Daxter was one of the best.

3) Killzone

Before creating the acclaimed game Horizon: Zero Dawn, Guerrilla Games was known for the Killzone series. Killzone was designed to be PlayStation’s leading first-person shooter, challenging Halo in popularity. The trilogy combined a strong sci-fi story with a deliberate, impactful shooting style, which was different from the quicker action games of the time. The Helghast enemies have become iconic in PlayStation gaming, and the series played a key role in shaping PlayStation’s online competitive scene during the PS2 and PS3 eras.

The original Killzone was held back by the technology of its time, but a remake could update the gameplay, visuals, and levels, finally letting players experience the story as the developers intended. Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 built on the first game with stunning graphics, epic battles, and more refined shooting. These sequels really tested the PS3’s capabilities, and a remastered trilogy would let all three games look and play their best without any technical limitations.

Now that story-focused shooting games are becoming popular again, it’s a great time to revisit the world of Killzone. A remake of the original trilogy would bring back a fantastic, yet often overlooked, sci-fi universe and give PlayStation a unique offering. Considering the current success of online shooters, Killzone would be a perfect fit for the PS5. Players have been requesting this for years, and the technology is finally here to create a truly amazing version of the games. Given the positive response to Guerrilla Games’ Horizon: Hunters Gathering, giving fans what they want could be a very smart move.

2) Sly Cooper

Man, the Sly Cooper games are seriously one of the coolest trilogies Sony’s ever put out. Sucker Punch really nailed it, mixing stealth, platforming, and a totally unique comic book vibe. The first game introduced me to Sly, Bentley, and Murray – they’re one of the most memorable crews ever on the PS2, hands down. Even now, the cartoon style and the way the heists are structured are still great. But honestly? A full remake with modern graphics would be amazing – way better than that recent rerelease. It would really bring those worlds to life!

As a huge Sly Cooper fan, I always loved how the second and third games really took things to the next level. They opened up the worlds, let you play as different characters, and gave you so much more to do. What really stood out was how perfectly they mixed funny moments with exciting action and sneaky stealth – honestly, few platformers have done that as well since. It would be amazing to see a full remake of the original trilogy! They could really build on everything we already love about those games, and with today’s technology, imagine even bigger levels, smoother stealth, and characters that feel more alive. While Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time was a great addition, those first three games are still the ones I keep coming back to.

The lack of the Sly Cooper series on current PlayStation consoles is a noticeable omission in Sony’s history. While the first game’s recent release was a good start, it doesn’t fully address the issue. Remastering the entire trilogy would excite existing fans and allow a new audience to experience a platforming series that was incredibly popular in the early 2000s. Sly Cooper truly deserves a revival, and with Ghost of Tsushima: Legends already out and more games on the way, Sucker Punch Productions is in a great position to bring back this classic PS2 series.

1) Uncharted

While the Uncharted series is newer than many other game trilogies, the original three games would greatly benefit from being rebuilt with modern technology. The first game, Drake’s Fortune, was groundbreaking for its cinematic action, but its animations, shooting mechanics, and enemy encounters now feel dated. A remake could update the game to match the quality of later Uncharted titles while still capturing the fun, adventurous spirit of the original. Just as Lara Croft has received new installments, Nathan Drake deserves a chance to be reimagined.

As a huge Uncharted fan, I still replay Uncharted 2 and 3 on my PS3, and they honestly hold up incredibly well! But imagine how amazing they’d be with modern graphics, smoother combat, and more detailed characters? The stories, the action sequences, and the characters themselves are just timeless. A remake collection would be the perfect way to experience Nathan Drake’s original adventures. Plus, it would make the jump from those earlier games to Uncharted 4 feel a lot more seamless, visually and gameplay-wise.

Naughty Dog consistently delivers incredibly detailed and cinematic games. The Uncharted series is a cornerstone of PlayStation, and revisiting it would both honor that legacy and introduce it to a new audience. While rumors suggest a new Uncharted game might continue the story with Nathan Drake or his daughter, Cassie, a remake of the original trilogy would be the best way to capture the true essence of the series and keep fans excited.
