‘No Second Chances’: Marathon Cheaters Will Be Banned Forever, Bungie Says

Bungie, the studio behind popular games like Destiny, is about to release Marathon, a new multiplayer shooter. It’s inspired by one of Bungie’s earlier game series and focuses on a gameplay style where players try to extract from a dangerous situation.

The sci-fi first-person shooter is launching on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S on March 5th, 2026 – just over a week from now! The developers recently published a blog post detailing the work they’ve done to ensure a secure and reliable online experience.

Bungie is taking a very firm stance against cheaters, stating that anyone caught cheating in Marathon will be permanently banned from the game with no appeals process.

Further into the blog post, it elaborates on this a little bit.

We have a zero-tolerance policy for cheating in Marathon. Anyone caught cheating, or creating tools to cheat, will be permanently banned. While our detection system won’t be flawless, we’ll have a process for reviewing bans and addressing any mistakes.

Bungie also stated that the game’s servers have complete control over everything players do – including how they move, shoot, interact with the game, and manage their items.

This ensures that if a player sends incorrect information to the game, only their actions will be affected, leaving everyone else undisturbed. It’s designed to stop cheating, such as teleporting, getting infinite ammo, or unfairly changing damage levels.

It sounds like Bungie has put a lot in place to ensure Marathon is a smooth and fair experience.

You’ll get a chance to try it out soon during our Server Slam event, happening from February 26th to March 2nd.
