The Fallout 4 registration form has you making some very important decisions indeed.
At the beginning of the game, you have 21 points to assign to your character’s core stats โ called SPECIAL โ and it’s important to make good choices about how you use them.
Okay, so the game does a little tutorial explaining what all the SPECIAL stats โ Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck โ do. But honestly, if you’re like me and new to Fallout, figuring out which stats are actually worth boosting for my playstyle can be pretty overwhelming at first.
The way you spend your points at the start of the game decides what your character will be like.
Here’s a simple guide to getting started in Fallout 4, covering the registration form, helpful tips for new players, and some strong character builds to try.
Fallout 4 registration form: Beginner tips

Before you assign your skill points in the Fallout 4 character creation, it’s a good idea to understand what each skill does and which ones will be most helpful at the beginning of the game.
Here’s what each SPECIAL stat does:
- Strength | Strength is a measure of your raw physical power. It affects how much you can carry, and the damage of all melee attacks.
- Perception | Perception is your environmental awareness and “sixth sense”, and affects weapon accuracy in VATS.
- Endurance | Endurance is a measure of your overall physical fitness. It affects your total Health and the Action Point drain from sprinting.
- Charisma | Charisma is your ability to charm and convince others. It affects your success to persuade in dialogue and prices when you barter.
- Intelligence | Intelligence is a measure of your overall mental acuity, and affects the number of Experience Points earned.
- Agility | Agility is a measure of your overall finesse and reflexes. It affects the number of Action Points in VATS and your ability to sneak.
- Luck | Luck is a measure of your general good fortune, and affects the recharge rate of Critical Hits.
Since Fallout 4 doesn’t have a level cap, you can eventually max out all your character’s skills. However, the choices you make when creating your character will mostly affect how the game plays at the beginning.
We suggest investing a significant number of your points into Intelligence, no matter what kind of character you’re building. A high Intelligence score early on will speed up your leveling and allow you to unlock helpful perks in the Intelligence skill tree sooner.
Having Strength and Endurance is also helpful. They let you carry more items โ which is important throughout the game โ and increase your overall health. Plus, higher Endurance makes it easier to sprint.
It’s also a good idea to put a few points into Agility, Perception, and Luck โ especially Agility if you want to be stealthy. Charisma isn’t as crucial when you’re first starting out.
How you start building your character affects things, but we highly suggest increasing your Intelligence to seven or eight when you first create your character in Fallout 4.
