Star Wars: Galactic Racer release date speculation and what to expect

Star Wars: Galactic Racer revives the high-speed action of the Star Wars universe, bringing racing back to a galaxy far, far away after more than twenty years. While you might remember classic pod racing games like Star Wars Episode 1: Racer, Galactic Racer offers a completely new experience.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer was created by a team of experienced racing game developers from Criterion – the studio known for popular titles like Burnout and Need for Speed, and even racing modes in Star Wars: Battlefront. This gives the game a strong foundation of expertise.

The newly established Fuse Games has a promising history, which hints that Galactic Racer will be a game worth looking forward to.

Curious about when Star Wars: Galactic Racer might be released? Keep reading for our predictions and a rundown of everything we know about the game so far.

When is the Star Wars: Galactic Racer release date?

As of writing, the Star Wars: Galactic Racer release date is scheduled for 2026.

Fuse Games and Secret Mode haven’t announced an exact release date for their new racing game, only that it’s expected sometime in 2026.

Whenever it does release, it will be available to play on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Naturally, with Star Wars, May 4th always comes up as a possible date for a new release, or at least when we might find out about a release.

May 4th is celebrated as Star Wars Day – a play on the famous line, “May the Force be with you” – and it’s common to see new Star Wars announcements and details revealed on this date.

We’ll let you know the official release date for Star Wars: Galactic Racer as soon as we have it.

What to expect of Star Wars: Galactic Racer gameplay and story

Even though we don’t know when it will be released, details about Star Wars: Galactic Racer are emerging. The game takes place in the Outer Rim, and you’ll be competing in the illegal, underground races organized by The Galactic League.

Galactic Racer is a fast-paced racing game set in the turbulent time following the establishment of the New Republic. Players compete for both racing glory and in a dangerous world of underground betting.

According to the game’s Steam page, you’ll “become Shade, a lone racer chasing revenge and glory”.

You can fly a variety of repulsorcraft, each handling differently and offering a unique gameplay experience. The game features several modes, including a story campaign and competitive races.

I definitely recommend watching the gameplay trailer! It’s a great way to get a feel for the game’s world, meet the characters, and see what the racing is actually like.

We learned from an interview with Matt Webster of Fuse Games on The Game Business that players will be able to freely explore the game world as Shade, not just during races, and interact with the environment.

Webster explained that these calmer, more relaxed experiences offer a great balance to the fast-paced, intense world of racing, allowing fans to truly connect with the Star Wars universe.

We’ll share more details about the game as we get closer to its launch, so keep checking back for updates.
