Bridgerton’s Yerin Ha Developed Folliculitis After NSFW Bathtub Scene

Even Lady Whistledown would clutch her pearls at Yerin Ha’s latest confession. 

The actress from Bridgerton shared that she had an unexpected and unpleasant reaction after filming an intimate scene with her co-star, Luke Thompson.

Yerin shared a funny story on the Capital Breakfast show with Jordan North, Chris Stark, and Sian Welby. She explained that she covered herself in baby powder to help her skin before putting on an outfit with tape. Unfortunately, the next day she broke out in hives and developed a skin infection, folliculitis, requiring steroid cream to treat it!

“I feel responsible,” she went on, “because I believe the baby powder mixed with the bathwater caused the problem.”

Luke mentioned that Yerin and her co-star, who play Benedict and Sophie in the fourth season of the Netflix show, spent seven hours in the bathtub while filming a scene. Yerin, 28, then joked that she’s particularly sensitive, unlike her co-star, who didn’t have the same reaction to the experience.

She recently revealed she was diagnosed with a skin condition – where hair follicles get inflamed, usually from a bacterial infection, as explained by the Mayo Clinic – after a particularly intimate scene. This comes after she and Luke, 37, previously dealt with another on-set health scare during the filming of a staircase scene.

In January, Luke explained to TopMob News that both he and another person became sick. He added that they were getting sick repeatedly, though at different times.

But maybe their bodies were trying to communicate what the actors couldn’t.

According to Yerin, both she and the other person getting sick indicated they were feeling stressed and their immune systems were weakened.

You know, when it comes to those kinds of scenes, I truly believe they need to feel organic. It’s not about adding them just for shock value or titillation. They should naturally flow from the story and the characters’ emotions – they have to be there to move things forward, not just exist for their own sake. As a storyteller, I always ask myself, ‘Does this moment deepen the connection or reveal something essential?’ If not, it doesn’t belong.

Filming the intimate scenes wasn’t easy, but the show’s careful planning makes the awkwardness worthwhile. For example, the passionate scene on the staircase wasn’t just about romance—it also hinted at the differences in social status between Sophie and Benedict.

Luke pointed out that Bridgerton excels at creating beautifully atmospheric scenes, highlighting a particularly clever metaphor involving a meeting at the staircase as a key moment.

He explained that the goal is to make these moments feel natural, like they’re part of the story. When they feel genuine and important, it’s much more enjoyable for everyone involved, rather than feeling forced or like they’re just included to check a box.
