Popular franchises like Dragon Ball, One Piece, and Attack on Titan have found great success with video games over the years. At the same time, many video games have been adapted into popular anime series, such as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Persona, Danganronpa, Castlevania, and Devil May Cry. Now, Crunchyroll is continuing this trend by preparing an anime adaptation based on From Software’s worlds and will be offering a first look soon.
FromSoftware, the studio behind popular games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring, also created the challenging samurai adventure Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Sekiro stands out from other FromSoftware titles with its straightforward narrative, a contrast to the more open-ended stories found in games like Elden Ring. An anime adaptation, titled Sekiro: No Defeat, is in the works, and Crunchyroll will be showcasing a first look at the series at this year’s South By Southwest (SXSW) festival. The panel, taking place on March 16th, will feature the anime’s creators and discuss the traditional, hand-drawn animation style used to bring the story to life.
Sekiro’s Anime Arrival
Want to learn more about Crunchyroll’s panel on FromSoftware at South By Southwest? Here’s a description of what to expect: The team is creating a hand-drawn anime reimagining of Sekiro, focusing on high-quality artistry and detailed animation rather than quick shortcuts. Director Kenichi Kutsuna, composer Shuta Hasunuma, and Crunchyroll’s Lauren Moore will give a behind-the-scenes look at how Studio Qzil.la is bringing Sengoku Japan to life, covering everything from initial research and design to the action sequences, art, and music. Lauren Moore, Kenichi Kutsuna, and Shuta Hasunuma will all be at the panel.
Besides the upcoming adaptation of Sekiro: No Defeat, the popular new anime Sentenced to Be a Hero will also be featured at next month’s SXSW festival. They’re planning an immersive installation to bring the anime’s world to life for attendees. Crunchyroll will be hosting several other panels as well, covering topics like the future of toys and games, anime’s global impact, branding strategies using anime, and how to connect with fans through design.
Currently, a release date for the Sekiro: No Defeat anime on Crunchyroll hasn’t been announced, but there’s good news for fans of FromSoftware! The anime is expected to premiere sometime this year, so viewers won’t have to wait long to see Sekiro come to life in animated form.
