I’ve always felt the shooting mechanics in STALKER 2 are better than people give them credit for. While it won’t be remembered as one of the greatest shooters ever, the guns feel powerful and satisfying to use – they’re weighty but also smooth. Plus, because you’re so vulnerable, every fight feels incredibly tense and exciting.
The game’s main weakness was a lack of exciting visual effects, but Cazanu’s new CinematicFX mod fixes that. Instead of subtle sounds when bullets hit walls, you now get huge explosions of dust, smoke, and rubble – truly cinematic impacts!
I tried out the mod, and it works great! It adds really dramatic destruction to STALKER 2, similar to what you’d see in games like FEAR, Trepang2, or the original Black. It’s cool because the way things break depends on what they’re made of – brick buildings crumble into debris, while metal structures explode with lots of sparks. I even started shooting at empty buildings just to watch the destruction, though I quickly ran out of ammo – it’s still STALKER 2, after all!
I realize this mod is fairly small compared to others in the STALKER series, and some might think I’m starting with something very basic. People have asked why I haven’t written about larger, more complex mods like STALKER Gamma or Anomaly, which drastically expand and intensify the original games. The honest answer is, I prefer to stick with smaller changes – I’m a bit of a scaredy-cat!
