PlayStation Reportedly Rejected Bloodborne Remake, Ghost of Tsushima Spin-Off Before Closing Bluepoint Games

PlayStation recently surprised many by announcing it would be closing Bluepoint Games soon, a decision that sparked confusion and anger. Bluepoint had built a strong reputation for its high-quality remasters and remakes, often considered among the best available. After the cancellation of their live-service ‘God of War’ project, it wasn’t clear what Bluepoint was working on, but a new report indicates the studio had proposed several games based on popular PlayStation franchises.

A recent Bloomberg report details how the Texas-based developer proposed several game projects after their unsuccessful attempt at a God of War title. One of these was a remake of Bloodborne, a game fans have been eagerly awaiting and joking about for years. While the financial projections for the Bloodborne remake were promising, according to Bloomberg’s sources, FromSoftware, the original game’s developer, ultimately decided against it.

Fans have been requesting a remake of Bloodborne for years, and people involved with the original game have discussed it. In a January 2025 interview with Kinda Funny Games, Shuhei Yoshida, former president of SIE Worldwide Studios, suggested that Hidetaka Miyazaki, president of FromSoftware, is either too busy to remake it himself or doesn’t want anyone else to attempt it, and PlayStation is honoring his preference.

Last year, Miyazaki mentioned he didn’t object to a PC version of the classic RPG, but worried about getting in trouble if he publicly supported it. He was pleased to hear players wanted a remake, though. Around the same time, he also explained that he couldn’t discuss Bloodborne because FromSoftware doesn’t own the rights to the game, a point he’s made in previous interviews as well.

Fans have been disappointed that the original PS4 version doesn’t offer improvements on newer consoles like the PS4 Pro, PS5, or PS5 Pro, and was never released on PC. This has led some to try modifying the game to improve its performance. However, these unofficial fixes mean many players still won’t be able to experience the classic RPG with enhanced graphics and smoother gameplay.

Bluepoint Also Reportedly Pitched Entries or Remakes in Other PlayStation Franchises

According to a Bloomberg report, Bluepoint Games also proposed a spin-off based on Ghost of Tsushima, though specifics about the idea weren’t shared. The studio reportedly even suggested an updated version of their 2018 Shadow of the Colossus remake, but the project wasn’t approved.

Detective Seeds previously shared some of this information on social media, detailing that the Tsushima spin-off was known internally as “Black Fang.” They also mentioned the planned Shadow of the Colossus port would have featured new bosses, including some designs originally cut from the first game. Separately, this source claims Bluepoint Games also pitched remakes of Jak and Daxter and the Resistance series, both of which haven’t seen new installments in over ten years. Both reports suggest that some at Bluepoint weren’t confident in their ability to handle the cancelled God of War live-service game, as it fell outside their area of expertise.

Thanks to their respected skills, Bloomberg’s report also notes that some people at Bluepoint are still attempting to revive the studio in another form, though that seems highly improbable given the current difficult climate.
