How Resident Evil Requiem Sets Up Resident Evil 10

Now that Resident Evil Requiem is out, fans are already wondering what the next game will be. Capcom will almost certainly make a Resident Evil 10 eventually, considering how popular and important the series is to the company. Based on how Requiem ends, we can start to predict what the story of Resident Evil 10 might be about.

Let’s discuss the ending of Resident Evil: Requiem and what it could mean for the future of the Resident Evil series. Be aware that this article contains major spoilers for Requiem, so proceed with caution if you haven’t seen it.

Elpis Will Impact Resident Evil in a Big Way

In the conclusion of Resident Evil Requiem, it’s revealed that Elpis isn’t a dangerous bioweapon, but actually a cure for the T-virus. Leon, along with Sherry Birkin and Emily, uses Elpis to heal their own infections. Created by Umbrella’s founder, Oswell Spencer, Elpis was intended as a way to atone for the damage caused by his bioweapons. Now that Leon, Grace, and the BSAA have it, Elpis is expected to help stop future bioweapon outbreaks worldwide.

It might seem like the Resident Evil story is finally heading towards a positive conclusion. However, knowing this series, that’s unlikely. While Elpis will definitely give the heroes a stronger fighting chance, we can expect a new, even more dangerous bioweapon to appear – one that isn’t affected by Elpis.

I predict that Resident Evil 10 will feature a brand new virus, something we haven’t encountered in the series before. Previous main titles have focused on specific threats – Resident Evil 4 had Las Plagas, Resident Evil 7 and Village revolved around the Mutamycete, and the early games were largely defined by the T-Virus. This next installment will likely introduce a completely new plague that could shape the direction of Resident Evil for the next three decades.

Leon and Chris Could Finally Team Up

Although Chris Redfield doesn’t make a direct appearance in Resident Evil Requiem, his team, the Hound Wolf Squad, does play a role. They rescue Leon and Grace from the Ark facility when it seems like there’s no escape. After getting out, Leon notes that Chris wasn’t present at the Ark ruins, but he expects to meet him again in the future.

A recent hint suggests that the next Resident Evil game, potentially Resident Evil 10, might finally let players team up Leon and Chris. Though they’re the two main heroes of the Resident Evil series, Leon and Chris haven’t really worked together in a significant way. They briefly crossed paths in Resident Evil 6, but they actually fought each other for a while before briefly teaming up.

It feels overdue to finally have Leon and Chris team up in a Resident Evil game. The main reason Capcom might have avoided this is that both characters have become so experienced and capable that they’re no longer easily frightened by the typical horror elements of the series. If they do partner up in a future game like Resident Evil 10, it would likely mean the game will focus much more on action than horror. While an action-packed game could be enjoyable, Capcom probably remembers the mixed reception to Resident Evil 6 and is hesitant to lean too heavily into action again.

Albert Wesker’s Presence Looms Large Once Again

A major surprise in Resident Evil Requiem is the return of Albert Wesker—though not exactly as you remember him. The original Wesker is revealed to have been cloned, and this clone appears as a new character named Zeno. Zeno works with a shadowy organization called The Connections and possesses all of Wesker’s signature abilities and appearance—including yellow eyes, sunglasses, and a stylish white suit.

Even though Zeno appears to die in Resident Evil: Requiem, Capcom has hinted that Wesker could return through cloning, similar to what happened here. This might lessen the impact of his supposed death in Resident Evil 5, but it wouldn’t be shocking for a dramatic series like Resident Evil to bring him back in this way. Wesker has been the main villain throughout the Resident Evil story and is connected to many key events. It makes sense for him to remain an important character in future games.

It’s likely we’ll see another character similar to Wesker in Resident Evil 10. The story seems to be building towards revealing the truth about The Connections – a powerful group with a lot of control – and a new Wesker-like figure working for them would naturally escalate the conflict with the series’ heroes.

Did Capcom Tease a Jill Valentine Return?

I don’t want to get too deep into this, since we’ve actually covered it pretty extensively in another article. But basically, I think Capcom might be hinting that Jill Valentine is coming back, possibly as part of Chris Redfield’s Hound Wolf Squad. If that’s the case, I’m guessing we’ll see her in some DLC for Resident Evil Requiem down the line – which I’m really hoping they make!

Even though Jill may not appear in this new downloadable content for Requiem, she deserves to be the main character in Resident Evil 10. Capcom hasn’t focused much on Jill over the last twenty years. Aside from the Resident Evil 3 remake, her last major appearance was in Resident Evil 5. She’s one of the strongest and most popular characters in the Resident Evil series, and it’s a shame she hasn’t been used more. If the developers plan to bring back a beloved character for RE10, Jill should be their top pick.

A New Remake Should Happen Before RE10

Although fans are speculating about what Resident Evil 10 might be like, it’s likely we’ll see another remake first. Rumors suggest Capcom is planning a remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, potentially releasing it in 2027. Capcom hasn’t officially confirmed this, but an announcement could come soon.

If Code Veronica is remade, it would mean most of the core Resident Evil games have now been recreated. Only Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 5, and Resident Evil 6 would still be missing modern versions, along with a remake of the very first Resident Evil game. Capcom will probably continue to balance remaking older titles with creating new ones, but since there aren’t many remakes left to do, we might see new Resident Evil games being released more frequently in the future.
