Bluepoint’s Live-Service God of War Title Was Cancelled Due to Lack of Progress – Rumor

The recent closing of Bluepoint Games was surprising, particularly after news surfaced that they’d pitched a remake of Bloodborne which FromSoftware rejected. But what happened with their previous project? Sony’s attempt to create ongoing live-service games hadn’t been successful, as evidenced by the cancellation of Concord. So, what led to the cancellation of the God of War title Bluepoint was reportedly working on?

According to sources who spoke with Jason Schreier at Bloomberg, Bluepoint Games hoped to create a new game following the release of God of War Ragnarök. The idea was a spin-off within the God of War universe—a continuously updated, live-service game where Atreus finds himself in the underworld, Hades. The game would have featured players controlling various iterations of the characters, and developers considered including some form of cooperative play and ongoing support after launch, though these plans weren’t finalized.

Bluepoint Games, a smaller studio unfamiliar with ongoing live-service games, struggled to make headway on the project, even with help from Sony Santa Monica. Reports suggest some team members weren’t enthusiastic about the direction and believed they’d be better suited creating a game similar to Demon’s Souls or Ragnarök.

As everyone knows, Sony ultimately cancelled the project in early 2025, stating they were looking for a different game for the studio. Following the reported rejection of a remake of Bloodborne, Bluepoint Games apparently proposed a spin-off to Ghost of Tsushima and an enhanced version of the Shadow of the Colossus Remake.
