Ranking The New Avengers Academy Recruits By Potential

Marvel Comics has introduced the first six issues of the revamped Avengers Academy in a fresh edition, marking the initial time these stories have been published in print format. The debut issue of Avengers Academy: Assemble, titled “Formation”, reveals how these young superheroes joined Carol Danvers’ new educational institution designed to mold the Avengers of tomorrow. Previously available only digitally, this print version presents comic book enthusiasts with an opportunity to explore this new squad of heroes. The characters show great promise, ranging from Bloodstone, daughter of Blade, to the grandson of the original Juggernaut and the contemporary symbol of Captain America, hailing from the Railways.

Initially, six characters are presented in the storyline, but a seventh, Blackheart, son of Mephisto, joins later. Each character possesses exceptional and individual abilities. They function not just as teammates or students, but also like a family unit, which makes “Avengers Academy” an outstanding Marvel publication at present. Among the seven new recruits, each has potential to make a significant impact; however, who will rise to prominence is yet to be determined, so we’re evaluating them in terms of their prospective greatness.

7) Escapade

Among the fresh recruits at the Avengers Academy, Escapade appears to have experienced the least growth in terms of character development across the initial 46 issues of the series. Known as Shela Sexton, she possesses a unique ability that involves swapping places with others and acquiring their powers during the exchange. This power has proven to be formidable; for instance, she managed to overcome Emplate by absorbing the abilities of multiple individuals simultaneously, albeit this left her in a coma temporarily. Similarly, she was successful in defeating Sin when Red Skull’s daughter attempted to mobilize social media against the LGBTQ+ community.

Adventure was introduced for the first time in the comic book series “Marvel Voices: Pride” (Vol. 2) #1, published in 2022. She is a mutant and her parents accepted her mutant nature, but rejected her when she revealed her identity as transgender. Emma Frost recognized her potential and brought her into the Lost Club on Krakoa. It was Emma who convinced her to join the Avengers Academy. In the comic book series “Avengers Academy“, Adventure’s storylines predominantly revolved around her self-discovery regarding her sexuality and her intense feelings for teammate Bloodline. However, among all characters thus far, she has been the least captivating.

6) Red Goblin

Red Goblin is the son of Harry and Liz Allan, as well as the grandson of Norman Osborn (Green Goblin). He’s bonded to a symbiote named Rascal. After a fight with Willow-Wisp at Oscorp Tower, Spider-Man persuaded Red Goblin to join the Avengers Academy for training and to protect him from his grandfather’s control. At first, he was a runaway, and Norman falsely claimed that Spider-Man had kidnapped him. To keep his identity hidden, Red Goblin didn’t reveal who he was at the academy, with Carol taking him on Spider-Man’s advice.

Initially, Red Goblin captured readers’ attention due to his enigmatic nature. Yet, as events unfolded, he unveiled his true self to his comrades and assured his grandfather of his well-being, stating he wouldn’t return home. Red Goblin formed a bond with Moon Girl and developed a contentious alliance with Captain America, given their contrasting backgrounds – the latter being against wealth, which Red Goblin represents. However, once his identity was disclosed, his character became less compelling in the narrative.

5) Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur

In a refreshingly different take on the character, Avengers Academy cleverly redefined Lunella Lafayette, also known as Moon Girl. Typically, she comes across as quite trying in many comic book appearances due to her portrayal as a child prodigy with poor social skills and limited ability to connect with those around her who aren’t equally intelligent. Yet, the exceptional Disney+ series “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” presented a heartwarming depiction of Lunella – a sweet girl eager to lend a helping hand to others. This version of the character surpassed most of her comic book history in terms of likeability.

The Avengers Academy portrays Moon Girl in a manner similar to her character on Disney+, rather than her comic book persona. She is compassionate and goes out of her way to support her classmates, helping Normie Osborn overcome his insecurities and shielding Captain America from his overly reckless pursuits. Devil Dinosaur isn’t depicted extensively, but he retains the jovial demeanor typical of the Disney+ series. If Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur continue to embody their roles from that series, they could potentially earn a permanent place among Marvel fans’ favorites.

4) Kid Juggernaut

Marvel opted for Kid Juggernaut as the character to unveil the new Avengers Academy in their initial comic issue. In this debut story, Justin bids farewell to his mother and embarks on his educational journey alongside Carol Danvers. The narrative provided a unique perspective by presenting Justin’s naive and curious personality, offering a fresh take on the Juggernaut character. It’s worth noting that Justin bears no connection to Cain Marco but instead is the grandson of the original Juggernaut, Jim Taiko.

Justin stands firm against Cyttorak’s demands and aims to prove that he won’t let the demon repeat its actions on his grandfather. An intriguing plotline in the Avengers Academy series revealed that Cyttorak and Baron Strucker were responsible for Justin’s grandfather becoming a villain, providing a twist to this long-time antagonist. This backstory also ties into current events as Justin struggles with self-control, making the development of Kid Juggernaut’s storyline an engaging spectacle.

3) Bloodline

Brielle Brooks is identified as Blade’s offspring, and she made her debut in the Free Comic Book Day 2022: Avengers/X-Men #1. Her upbringing was quite unique. Given the identity of her father, Doctor Strange foresaw potential danger for Brielle, so he employed a spell to conceal her from those with magical abilities. This concealment was demonstrated in the initial issue of Avengers Academy, where Kid Juggernaut struggled to perceive Brielle even during their conversations.

In many episodes, Bloodline and Escapade have been growing closer romantically. Lately, though, their relationship has taken a pause while she returns home to share her sexuality with her family, having decided to come out following self-discovery of her feelings for Escapade. Notably, her character possesses several appealing traits, including Walpurgis, her cat who is the offspring of Agatha Harness’s familiar Ebony, and a stake crafted for her in the past by Kid Loki as shown during a time-travel scene in the series. Her appearance in Blood Hunt indicates she will be significant in Marvel Comics, with Avengers Academy being only the beginning.

2) Blackheart

The offspring of Mephisto, commonly known as Blackheart, is the most surprising member of the Avengers Academy. He officially joined the team in issue #27 of “Avengers Academy.” Having made his first appearance in “Daredevil” #270 back in 1989, he has a long history with the Marvel Universe. Given this background, it’s quite unusual to see him at the academy. However, things take an interesting turn when Blackheart refuses to deliver Mephisto the spectral children of Scarlet Witch (a time-displaced Tommy and Billy from another realm). As a consequence, Mephisto transformed Blackheart into a human in a young man’s form and exiled him from his dimension.

In a change of pace, Blackheart, formerly known for his villainous deeds, sought aid at the Avengers Academy under a new identity, Gabriel. His aim was redemption, acknowledging the likelihood of his eventual return to evil ways. However, he’s determined to strive for heroism in every opportunity that comes his way. Remarkably, he managed to win over Doctor Doom and had a profound conversation with Daredevil during their shared experience in the One World Under Doom saga. If there’s a character from Avengers Academy who might succumb to evil again, it’s Blackheart, making his journey towards redemption a potential tragedy waiting to unfold.

1) Captain America of the Railways

In the Marvel comic series Avengers Academy, Aaron Fischer, who assumes the role of Captain America on the Railways, stands out with his well-developed character. He was introduced in United States of Captain America #1 from 2021, where he emerged as one of the Americans taking up Cap’s mantle in response to the surge of racists and fascists within their nation. Being a fugitive due to multiple charges primarily against corporations, Aaron has dedicated himself to championing the rights of the common people.

He’s played a significant role in some of the most captivating plots in Avengers Academy to date. His character harbors an unfulfilled affection for Kid Juggernaut, and is entangled in a complex relationship with one of the series’ standout secondary characters – Mysteriant, the nephew of Mysterio, who uses his criminal activities to aid the underprivileged. He works at a community center named after one of Captain America’s dearest friends, where he bravely defended it against a hate group led by Sin, as it serves as a sanctuary for LGBTQ+ individuals. This culminated in Steve Rogers’ appearance and endorsement of Aaron. He embodies the LGBTQ+ community, challenges the privileged elite, and undeniably boasts the most promising future among the Avengers Academy members.
