Anne Hathaway‘s sweater is not just blue—it’s actually cerulean.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the captivating actress has sparked excitement among her followers by hinting at the commencement of filming for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” through a mysterious video post.
On July 21, Anne shared a brief video on TikTok, showing herself brushing her teeth. To casual viewers, this might not seem special, but fans of the 2006 movie recognized that Anne’s appearance—with her hair loose and wearing a button-down shirt under a blue sweater—was a reenactment of Andy Sachs’ iconic look from a memorable scene in the original film.
It appears she labeled her post as, “On my way to work,” and included the hashtag #dwp2, which suggests that production for the long-awaited sequel might be starting.
Simultaneously, it’s worth mentioning that Stanley Tucci, who starred with Anne in the initial film, has also verified that the production for the sequel is now underway.
In her July 20 TikTok update, she mentioned that she briefly paused her packing because she will be filming the movie “The Devil Wears Prada” shortly.
Following the announcement by original co-star Emily Blunt that filming for the sequel starts this month, Anne and Stanley’s updates followed suit. Moreover, Emily Blunt clarified rumors about her character, Emily Charlton, who has been elevated to a high-ranking executive, ready to confront Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestley in the new movie.
She jokingly commented on “Entertainment Tonight” in June, “Why do Meryl and I always seem to be so antagonistic towards each other in every movie we make?” She quipped, “We’ve got a constant feud going on. I can’t quite put my finger on it. Here’s hoping we resolve it soon. I’m not quite sure yet.
The actress has otherwise remained tight-lipped about what fans can expect from the upcoming film.
While he won’t be in the sequel, plenty of other beloved stars will be.
Actress Lucy Liu, Pauline Chalamet from “Sex Lives of College Girls”, Justin Theroux known for “The Leftovers”, BJ Novak famous for “The Office”, and Conrad Ricamora are all set to appear in an upcoming film, as we learned earlier this month.
Joining them will also be Broadway’s Helen J. Shen, as well as comedian Caleb Hearon.
As we eagerly anticipate the sequel’s release in May 2026, prepare yourself by uncovering the hidden gems from the original “The Devil Wears Prada.

In an exclusive piece of news reported by TopMob earlier this month, it’s been revealed that Lucy Liu, known for her role in “Sex Lives of College Girl,” Pauline Chalamet from the same series, Justin Theroux famed for his work in “The Leftovers,” BJ Novak, a familiar face from “The Office,” and Conrad Ricamora will all be starring in an upcoming film.
Joining them will also be Broadway’s Helen J. Shen, as well as comedian Caleb Hearon.
As we eagerly anticipate the sequel’s release in May 2026, arm yourself with intriguing facts and insights about the original “The Devil Wears Prada”…
The movie adaptation of “The Devil Wears Prada” was already being developed when the book first came out, thanks to the initial 100 pages and a plot outline that convinced Fox executives. This tale inspired by author Lauren Weisberger’s brief time at Vogue as Anna Wintour’s assistant particularly captivated them, with Carla Hacken, then executive vice president of Fox 2000, being the first to read it in 2016. According to her, Miranda Priestly was one of the most compelling villains ever, and she recalls that they quickly moved to secure the rights for the production.
In my role as a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share an intriguing journey I followed while penning the script for a film centered around the career sacrifices women often face in the competitive world of fashion magazines. This project actually started before the 2003 publication of a bestselling book, but it was only after four talented writers had attempted their versions that I got involved to reimagine and refocus the narrative. As I recall, I wrote the initial draft fairly swiftly, approximately within a month’s time. After receiving feedback from my peers, I then revised the script based on their insightful suggestions.
2. The legend surrounding Anna Wintour posed numerous challenges during the production process. As McKenna shared with Entertainment Weekly, she faced immense difficulty in finding anyone in the fashion industry willing to speak with her because people were intimidated by Anna and Vogue, fearing repercussions like being shunned. One individual who did share their insights with McKenna anonymously commented, “The characters in this film are too kind-hearted. No one in that world is so nice. They don’t need to be, and they don’t have the time for it.” In response, McKenna revised her work to make the characters appear more busy and unyielding.
David Frankel, the director, openly confessed to Entertainment Weekly about the challenge in obtaining locations due to Wintour’s extensive influence. He explained, “The Met Ball made it clear that the Metropolitan Museum wasn’t willing to work with us.” Additionally, Bryant Park, which was then the long-standing venue for New York Fashion Week, was also unavailable.
He mentioned that despite those renowned apartment buildings appearing as potential options for Miranda’s apartment, the co-op boards refused us entry. In the end, they managed to secure a five-story Upper East Side townhouse from a friend of producer Wendy Finerman on loan.
3. However, they managed to excel in one area: “Our interaction with Vogue was limited to just Jess Gonchor, the production designer, who secretly visited their offices to catch a glimpse of Anna’s workspace,” Frankel shared with EW. “He managed to recreate the office so accurately that I heard Anna redecorated hers right after the film’s release.
4. The wardrobe posed an unusual problem too. At first, as Frankel shared with EW, they struggled to persuade renowned designers to contribute items for the movie, stating that “they were reluctant to face Anna’s displeasure.
The acclaimed fashion guru, Patricia Field, gracefully entered the scene. She skillfully orchestrated a collection of approximately 150 items from designers such as Donna Karan, Zac Posen, Rick Owens, and Prada, ensuring that Meryl Streep’s character Miranda Priestly was distinctly differentiated from Anna Wintour. As Streep humorously remarked, “Everything was borrowed, so we had to be cautious not to spill spaghetti at lunch because it couldn’t be returned!
5. And Wintour shows at least a hint of humor regarding the situation. In an interview for Vogue’s special 125th anniversary issue, Streep discussed her role as Wintour’s late friend Katherine Graham in “The Post” from 2017. When asked about the most difficult character she’s ever played, Streep hesitated and said, “I suppose I should say…” only for Wintour to interrupt with a laugh, stating, “No, no! We’re not going there, Meryl.
6. Wintour indeed went to a screening, and surprisingly enough, it was the same event as her ex-assistant Weisberger had attended. Later on, she explained to 60 Minutes that the movie was purely for entertainment purposes, stating that it did not accurately depict the inner workings of the magazine.
7. Among all actresses, Streep was undeniably the perfect fit for Miranda, as acknowledged by studio VP Hacken to Variety, admitting they hadn’t even considered any other contenders. In her own words, “All I can remember is praying, ‘Please God—let it be Meryl.'” Upon hearing that the Academy Award-winning actress had agreed to meet with the director after reading the script, Hacken couldn’t contain his excitement and exclaimed in his office.
In simpler terms, Meryl Streep expressed her appreciation for the character’s unflinching toughness and refusal to compromise herself. She admired that the character didn’t try to win people over by being submissive or manipulative, a trait often seen in women when they want to get their way. As her friend Carrie Fisher would put it, this was not the ‘squeezy and tilty’ approach. [Miranda] did not resort to these tactics.
8. In a manner reminiscent of Miranda Priestly, Streep chose to negotiate her role before agreeing to it. Although she had previously won two Oscars and earned 11 nominations, Streep wasn’t yet accustomed to demanding higher compensation. However, on this occasion, she made her request known.
She clarified to Variety that the initial offer, while not quite demeaning, didn’t fully acknowledge her true worth for the project. She described this situation as her ‘goodbye moment’, but shortly after, they increased the offer significantly. At the age of 55, she had recently discovered how to advocate for herself effectively.
9. Alongside other responsibilities, Streep requested two specific scenes to ensure Miranda didn’t become a stereotype: The first was referred to as “the fashion business,” where Miranda taught Andy about her iconic cerulean sweater, and the second was an intimate scene set in a hotel room, showing a more vulnerable side of Miranda without her defensive shield.
Meryl Streep sported white hair herself during her studio visit, where she appeared with icy tresses. According to director Frankel, as he shared with Entertainment Weekly, “Meryl embodied Miranda in that meeting, and there was no need for a discussion about the hair; they simply looked into Meryl’s eyes without saying a word.
Anne Hathaway worked harder for her role compared to Andy, who assisted Miranda. Although not extremely difficult, as she mentioned during an interview on RuPaul’s Drag Race, “I was the ninth choice for The Devil Wears Prada.
As an ardent admirer, let me tell you, I couldn’t help but feel a tinge of persistence. Anne Hathaway, though she mentioned to Variety that she didn’t have to audition, had to exercise restraint. The anticipation was so thick, I even took it upon myself to leave my mark in the serene sand of Hackens’ zen garden with the words “hire me.”
The moment I received the news, I was in my sanctuary, slipping into a shirt. Friends were gathered around. In an unforgettable moment, I burst into my living room, only partially clothed, ecstatically shouting, “I’ve landed The Devil Wears Prada! I’ve landed The Devil Wears Prada!
Fortunately for Hathaway, the executives’ preferred choice declined the offer repeatedly. As director Frankel shared with Entertainment Weekly, they had approached Rachel McAdams on three occasions. At that time, McAdams was busy filming Fox’s “The Family Stone”. Having recently starred in “Mean Girls” and “The Notebook”, she opted against taking on another mainstream production. As Frankel explained, the studio persistently wanted her for the role, while McAdams was resolute about not participating in it.
Kate Hudson turned down an iconic role that countless actresses would have jumped at the chance to play. In an interview with Capital FM’s Capital Breakfast in February 2025, she admitted, “It was a matter of timing. It was one of those roles where I couldn’t take it on, and I should have found a way to make it work, but I didn’t. When I saw the part, my reaction was ‘Yuck.’
The performance of Streep and Hathaway in the 2005 Oscar-winning film “Brokeback Mountain” significantly contributed to securing a role for Hathaway, who starred in “The Princess Diaries.” As Frankel recounted, “Meryl watched that scene from the movie,” then met with her and phoned Tom Rothman at Fox, stating, “This girl is excellent, and I believe we’ll collaborate well together.”
Meryl Streep saw Hathaway in Brokeback Mountain and thought she was fantastic. They had a meeting, and Streep called up Tom Rothman at Fox to say that Hathaway was great and would work well with her for a future project, which eventually led to Hathaway getting a role.
12. Finding the right actress for Emily proved to be quite a task. Frankel observed over a hundred women vying for Miranda’s strict personal assistant role, including Tracie Thoms, who later auditioned for the part of Lily, Andy’s friend. However, it was Emily Blunt, dressed casually, who stood out among them all and ultimately caught his attention.
While Emily Blunt was already at the Fox studio trying out for the role in the 2006 fantasy film Eragon, a casting agent suggested she audition for The Devil Wears Prada. However, she was hurriedly making her way to the airport and admitted on The Late Late Show in May 2021 that she was flustered at the time. Consequently, she read the script while wearing sweatpants, which didn’t fit the character’s image at all.
A few days had passed, and still brooding over missing out on the film Eragon, Blunt received a call from Frankel. In conversation with Variety, she recounted, “It was from some seedy club in London. I called him back from the restroom. He said, ‘I would have cast you based on your audition tape, but the studio wants to see you again. Can you redo it, but this time dress the part properly?’
13. She perfectly fit the role. Initially, Emily was intended to be an American character, but when screenwriter McKenna listened to Blunt deliver her sharp wit with a British accent, they decided to modify the script, adding more British elements to it, as McKenna explained to Entertainment Weekly.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, let me share an interesting tidbit about my creative process: sometimes, inspiration strikes from the most unexpected places. Just like the time I was filming on location at a supermarket, when I overheard a mother engaging with her child. The way she conveyed her feelings, using gestures and words, left such an impact that I simply had to incorporate it into my character’s dialogue. Now, it’s a line that resonates with many, and I can’t help but feel grateful for the genuine emotion shared by a fellow shopper.
Stanley Tucci played a significant role in shaping memorable dialogues. Following an extensive search by producers for the perfect fit as Runway’s art director, Nigel, Tucci stepped into the role at the last minute. Later, he masterfully delivered Nigel’s dry wit and even came up with some of his most popular quotes on the fly. (EW is Entertainment Weekly)
In an interview with Buzzfeed, Tucci commented on his favorite part of the show where Miranda enters the office and everyone reacts nervously. He added that they all couldn’t stop laughing, and David kept coming up with lines for him to say, ultimately choosing “Gird your loins.” Among the lines that didn’t make it, Tucci mentioned one he came up with himself: “‘Tits in!'” This was a line he made up during their laughter-filled sessions. 15. It’s no surprise that his most cherished keepsake from the movie is his family. Even after the film, Tucci maintained a strong bond with his co-star Blunt, who invited him to her 2010 wedding to John Krasinski. This event is where he rekindled his relationship with Felicity Blunt, whom he later married in 2012. Since then, they have started a family and welcomed their children Matteo and Emilia.
However, as Tucci shared with People, it was during the 2006 film premiere that he first encountered his future spouse. At that moment, he was still married to his late wife, Kate Tucci, who had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. “Thus, I completed the movie, and she underwent treatments, and then we held the premiere. Subsequently, she lived for four more years,” he clarified. “Interestingly enough, Felicity – Emily’s sister, my wife – conversed with Kate at the premiere that night, and I possess a photograph of them together, which is quite peculiar.
16. Similar to Hathaway, Thoms vividly recalls the specific instance when she learned she would portray Lily, an occasion that happened on her 30th birthday in August 2005. The star of Rent felt reasonably assured during her audition—”At that stage in my career, I had settled into this ‘best friend’ role. So I thought, ‘Lily? That’s a piece of cake. I’ve got this!'”—but she was equally excited when she heard the news.
She reminisced to TopMob News about being in Dartmouth where she attended a workshop for a fresh play by Alan Ball. It was during lunch in the cafeteria when she received the news. Essentially, they said, “‘Hey, congratulations! You landed the role in The Devil Wears Prada. Happy birthday!'” She considered it a wonderful memory for her special day.
17. Thomas also recalls observing Adrian Grenier, who was extremely popular during his time on Entourage, being surrounded by fans and gracefully handling each autograph request by distributing copies of his alternative folk band The Honey Brothers’ CD instead.
As a devoted fan, I admired how Grenier, portraying Nate, the boyfriend of Andy, showcased his band members. Since I wasn’t the lead vocalist in our band, Thoms pointed out, he took every chance to highlight them instead. I found it truly commendable how he handled everyone with care and respect, acknowledging their backing, and then mirroring that support onto his fellow musicians.
18. Though Thoms found the whole experience utterly delightful, saying “It felt like we were starring in our own version of ‘Sex and the City’. We weren’t, but there was definitely a strong New York, sophisticated, and mature vibe,” she does admit to having one minor disappointment.
In a crucial scene, she intentionally chose to remain unaware of the Marc Jacobs bag that both Lily and Thoms were enamored with, so as to ensure their reactions were authentic. She explained, “I instructed the prop team not to reveal the handbag until we started filming, in order to elicit a genuine response.” This resulted in the gasping, reaching, and excited exclamations of “Give it to me, give it to me!” because the bag was indeed stunning.
Admiting to TopMob News, she shared that the bag was so appealing, she had devised a plan to keep it. There was even a scene planned where she would forget to take the purse from her trailer, only for this scene to be removed. As a result, she never returned to work to retrieve the purse, which she found quite unfortunate.
Initially, no one planned to visit Paris for the final scenes of Miranda and Andy’s trip to Paris Fashion Week. However, Meryl Streep wasn’t going to be among those visiting the City of Light. Eventually, during production, Frankel managed to create a compelling preview (a “sizzle reel”) that convinced the studio to release the film in summer with an enhanced budget.
Hathaway and Simon Baker (playing her other romantic interest, writer Christian) traveled to France for a couple of days of filming, while Streep shot her scenes in New York City. The studio stated that it would be excessively costly to send Streep overseas.
In reality, Streep regretfully missed out on much of the enjoyment. Choosing to fully embody her Miranda character and mostly avoid any set-related camaraderie was dreadful, as she later confessed to Entertainment Weekly. “I could hear everyone laughing and having fun. I was so dismal! I lamented, ‘This is the price you pay for being in charge!’ That’s the last time I ever tried a Method approach!
Before Meryl Streep turned icy, she briefly encouraged Hathaway, as recalled in an interview with People. She said something along the lines of, “I want you to understand that I think you’re going to excel in this role, and it’s a pleasure working with you…and that will be the last nice thing I say to you.
That’s all.
