Team17 and Observer Interactive have shared a new trailer that focuses on the story of their game, Rover’s Tale (previously called Good Boy). The game is described as a “Petroidvania,” meaning it combines elements of exploration with a focus on an ecosystem and a pet companion.

About

Journey to Terra II, a planet that feels both recognizable and strange. You’ll need to upgrade your gear and learn to use the abilities of local creatures to survive in diverse environments – from thick forests and murky swamps to icy mountains. Thanks to the LAIKA Programme, elderly dogs have been given a new chance at life by having their minds transferred into robotic Rovers, allowing them to continue exploring space as courageous adventurers!

When something unusual is found on a distant planet, a human explorer is dispatched to look into it. A rough landing activates a nearby LAIKA Rover – a robotic explorer that was in sleep mode. Now, you get to control your own Space Rover!

You’ll team up to investigate thriving ecosystems, meet other Rovers, and uncover the planet’s hidden secrets, ultimately learning the story of how it came to be.

  • LAIKA Rovers – Find and reboot your sleeping canine companions, become best friends, and work together to help The Human with their mission. Complete quests for the Rovers to receive unique rewards and help them remember their past by unlocking their hidden memory tapes.
  • Unlock Mysteries – Delve deep into the hidden depths of Terra II! Explore sprawling caves and discover ancient temples, as you uncover the history of the planet and its previous inhabitants. Who were they? Where did they go?
  • Beautiful Biomes – Explore the familiar yet alien planet of Terra II. Utilize your upgrades and creature abilities to adapt to the different biomes, from lush forests to stinky swamps and snowy mountain tops.
  • Rover Customization – Upgrade your Rover with new tools and capturing equipment. Maximize your exploring capabilities with motherboard enhancements and abilities. Expand your wardrobe, unlock new cosmetics, and become the most fashionable Rover on Terra II!

I’m really excited for Rover’s Tale! It’s coming out in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC – you’ll be able to grab it on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG. And the best part? There’s a demo available right now on Steam, so I’m already giving it a try!
