As a huge movie fan, I’ve always noticed that horror just keeps coming back. It’s a reliable genre for studios because, honestly, they don’t need massive budgets to make a lot of money. That’s why we’ve seen franchises go on and on – think about the thirteen Halloween movies, ten Saw films, and even six Exorcist movies (with another one hopefully being good!). Basically, people genuinely enjoy being scared, and that’s what keeps these series alive, not some big, interconnected story like Marvel’s. It’s simple: fear sells!
As a huge horror fan, I’m so excited! It’s been way too long – seventeen years, to be exact – since we last visited Crystal Lake with a new Friday the 13th movie. Legal issues kept the franchise on hold, but it’s officially back! And to celebrate another Friday the 13th, Peacock just gave us a first look at the new Crystal Lake TV series, and it looks amazing. It really seems like they’ve nailed the feel of the original films, and honestly, it’s a continuation fans have been hoping for.
Friday the 13th Returns with First Look at Crystal Lake TV Series

A new Friday the 13th TV series, called Crystal Lake, is in the works. It’s the first series in the franchise since the 1980s anthology show, also titled Friday the 13th: The Series. The show has been in development for several years with various writers and producers involved, but the core idea has stayed consistent: it will be a prequel exploring the backstories of Jason and Pamela Voorhees, explaining how the events of the films came to be.
The first images released for the Crystal Lake series on Peacock intentionally echo scenes from the original Friday the 13th film, which will likely appeal to longtime fans. These include a foggy view of Crystal Lake itself, a shot of deceased camp counselors mirroring the opening of the first movie, and a hand gripping a knife, bringing to mind Pamela Voorhees from the original film.

The upcoming film, Crystal Lake, will feature Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees, Jason’s mother, exploring her character in a way never before seen in a movie. Newcomer Callum Vinson will play Jason. The series also benefits from showrunner Brad Caleb Kane, who recently directed the successful prequel series, IT: Welcome to Derry, and knows how to scare audiences.
Kane has described the show, Crystal Lake, as a psychological thriller reminiscent of paranoid films from the 1970s. While it shares elements with slasher movies—including a lot of bloodshed and creative kills—it’s not quite a slasher itself. The violence serves to develop the characters, explore the show’s themes, and build a strong sense of setting and time period.
Okay, so we don’t have a firm release date for the new Friday the 13th movie yet, but here’s a little something to get us excited: February 2026 has a Friday the 13th! It’s a pretty safe bet they’ll try to release it around then, though Peacock hasn’t officially said anything. For now, we’ve got these first-look images to tide us over, and honestly, it’s just great to see Friday the 13th coming back after so many other horror series have been rebooted and revived while we waited!
