As a dedicated gamer, I’ve noticed that PlayStation has been silent about the absence of PS3 titles in their monthly lineup of free games for PlayStation Plus members. PlayStation is a gaming titan, boasting a colossal player base on its subscription service, PlayStation Plus. This service offers the chance to engage in online multiplayer, but what really sets it apart are the free games you receive (varying based on your subscription tier). From PS4 and PS5 games, to some classic PS2 titles like Deus Ex: The Conspiracy, this month’s offerings don’t disappoint.
This subscription offers an economical gaming experience for just $20 per month. With this service, users gain access to a vast library of free games spanning PlayStation’s 30-year history. However, it appears that the PS3 generation of consoles is not fully represented in this selection of games. Unfortunately, PlayStation does not seem to be adding many new PS3 games to its PS Plus collection, leaving fans disappointed as there are several timeless classics like Killzone, Infamous, Resistance, and more confined to the PS3 console without any remasters or ports on the horizon.
In simpler terms, some games can be played on PlayStation’s streaming service, but it’s not the optimal way to enjoy them, especially since PS2 games are now emulated with fresh trophies on PS5. Unfortunately, this year, no PS3 games have been made available through PS Plus, which has left fans feeling disappointed. Nick Maguire, Vice President of Global Services at PlayStation, explained to GameFile that adding PS3 games is more challenging compared to other titles.
By utilizing streaming services, we’ll keep on viewing those titles.” He emphasized: “We haven’t dismissed the possibility. The chances are present. However, many PS3 games are already available through streaming.
In summary, the support provided by PlayStation for games from the PS3 era leaves much to be desired. It’s a pity that more titles aren’t made playable in the present day. While some games like God of War 3 and those developed by Naughty Dog have been ported over, many other groundbreaking games are not as easily accessible. Here’s hoping PlayStation will rectify this issue soon, but only time will tell. There’s anticipation that Metal Gear Solid 4 is being remastered by Konami and may appear on Xbox and PC platforms too, although we’ll need to stay tuned for more information.
