Everyone Missed 2025’s Most Underrated JRPG, And Now Is The Perfect Time To Play It

I’m a big fan of Japanese Role-Playing Games, especially those with compelling stories and emotional depth. I also love discovering hidden gems – games that don’t get the recognition they deserve. I try to share these overlooked titles with others, often writing detailed and expressive reviews. Luckily, the internet and Steam’s recommendations often help these games find a wider audience.

Despite many great games being released, some truly special titles often get missed, even by dedicated fans. That’s definitely the case with Artis Impact, a JRPG that stands out as something completely new and excels in almost every way. It packs so much quality into a short playtime, it’s surprising more people haven’t experienced it. It feels like it was unfairly overshadowed by other popular indie games in 2025, and I still can’t stop thinking about how good it is after finishing it.

Artis Impact Is One Of The Greatest JRPGs Ever Made

Honestly, I’ve never played anything like Artis Impact. It’s a weird mix – part life simulator where you’re building a life, part really thoughtful and kinda sad story about what it all means, and then it throws in turn-based battles and a road trip vibe. It somehow takes everything I love about JRPGs and smashes it all together into something truly special. I genuinely laughed and cried a lot playing this game, and it’s a game of extremes that somehow manages to balance everything perfectly. It’s just really rewarding to play, and it stuck with me long after I finished one of the many endings.

Let’s be honest: despite being a very well-made game, Artis Impact isn’t particularly difficult. Its beautifully animated and musically rich battles are actually its simplest features. This was a deliberate choice, as the story is the main focus, with combat and life simulation elements designed to complement it. While these supporting elements are enjoyable – and sometimes the best part of the game – players looking for a real challenge might find it a bit easy.

Once you get lost in this beautifully crafted post-apocalyptic world, with its consistent humor, thoughtful story, and engaging combat, the few small issues the game had at launch become almost unnoticeable – many have already been addressed. The story, created by Artis Impact, is particularly captivating, thanks to the complex and compelling journey of its main character, Akane, which allows the game’s rich and well-developed world to truly shine. The cozy life simulation aspects also add to the immersive experience.

Even if the story doesn’t fully resonate with you – though it’s hard to imagine it wouldn’t – Artis Impact is worth playing for its stunning visuals and peaceful moments. Exploring the game’s environments is a real pleasure, largely due to its unique art style, which is now my favorite pixel art. But it’s what you do in those environments – things like getting a job, chatting with people, decorating your home, or taking the train – that truly makes the game special. Artis Impact makes even simple tasks feel cozy and inviting, and the beautiful music enhances everything you do. If you’re still unsure, try the free demo – it’s a complete adventure that perfectly captures the essence of the full game in a short, enjoyable experience.

Indie JRPGs Deserve More Love

I was playing Artis Impact the other day, and it really hit me how often amazing indie JRPGs just fly under the radar. Every now and then, a game like Chained Echoes or Sea of Stars comes along and reminds everyone how great the old-school style can be, and they get a little hype for a bit. But honestly, the whole indie JRPG scene is full of so much passion and effort, with some seriously ambitious projects, and it just doesn’t get the attention it deserves. It’s a shame, because there’s some real gold to be found!

Despite a growing mainstream interest, Japanese Role-Playing Games (JRPGs) haven’t seen much success in the indie game scene. Only one JRPG has ever won the Game Award for Best Independent Game, and only two have been nominated in the last ten years. This is surprising considering that titles like Artis Impact, Wolfstride, Undertale, and CrossCode offer deep stories and compelling gameplay. Games such as Crystal Project, Edge of Eternity, and Cassette Beasts also stand out with their immersive worlds.

Many fantastic indie games don’t get the attention they deserve, often overshadowed by popular titles like Balatro and Blue Prince. This is particularly true for games like Artis Impact, which I believe is one of the greatest JRPGs ever created – on par with Game of the Year nominees. We should definitely start exploring the indie JRPG scene more, as it’s filled with incredible hidden gems that could keep even the most demanding players entertained for hours. At the very least, give Artis Impact a try – I’m confident it will surprise and move you.
