Spider-Man: Brand New Day May Be Repeating a No Way Home Trick (But Marvel Fans Already Figured It Out)

It’s been almost five years since Tom Holland last starred in a solo Spider-Man movie, but he’s back with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Instead of a typical trailer release, Sony and Marvel did something different: they created a 24-hour global event. They asked Spider-Man fans around the world, from Lima to Tokyo, to share short clips on Instagram, with Tom Holland then debuting the complete trailer. The trailer itself was packed with information, showing Mac Gargan returning as Scorpion, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher causing trouble in New York, and Peter Parker seemingly changing biologically, even developing natural web-shooters. While the trailer reveals a lot, some fans believe the most important details are what it doesn’t show.

The trailer ends with Peter facing off against a group of red ninjas who appear to be from The Hand, the same criminal organization that caused trouble for Daredevil in the Netflix series Defenders. However, the visual effects in some parts of the trailer look incomplete, similar to a moment from the marketing for Spider-Man: No Way Home. In that film’s trailer, Marvel digitally removed Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men from the final battle to keep their appearance a secret. If they’re doing the same thing with Brand New Day, the ninja scene might not show Peter fighting alone – the trailer could be hiding whoever is helping him on the rooftop.

Who Is Fighting The Hand Together with Spider-Man In Brand New Day?

The upcoming film, Brand New Day, features a large group of villains during Holland’s time as Spider-Man. In addition to Scorpion and The Hand, Tombstone will appear, though he wasn’t shown in the trailer. Boomerang and Tarantula are featured in promotional materials. The footage hints at mind control, with someone seemingly controlling other characters. This, combined with Peter Parker’s developing ability to create organic webs, suggests the introduction of the Queen, a villain from the comics with telepathic powers who previously altered Spider-Man. Plus, Mark Ruffalo is reprising his role as Bruce Banner, potentially including the Hulk, and Sadie Sink is playing an unknown character speculated to be Jean Grey.

Considering the four-year gap in the story, it’s doubtful every character will have a complete story arc in the movie. The film will likely use quick flashbacks to show Peter Parker’s past interactions with villains like Boomerang and Tarantula. The rooftop scene might actually be from one of these flashbacks, featuring a team-up with heroes who were active during that time. Since The Hand is typically associated with Daredevil, and the new season of Daredevil: Born Again is coming out soon, it’s possible the trailer is hiding Charlie Cox’s appearance. Alternatively, if The Hand is a current threat, the trailer could be keeping Bruce Banner’s transformation or the identity of another mysterious character a secret. Either way, Sony and Marvel are clearly holding back surprises, suggesting we can expect some unexpected team-ups in the film.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to release in theaters on July 31, 2026.
