While still part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and featuring familiar faces like Dr. Bruce Banner and the Punisher, the new Spider-Man movie clearly shows a greater respect for the character’s original comic book roots. The trailer doesn’t shy away from these influences, offering plenty of nods and Easter eggs that fans of the Amazing Spider-Man comics will appreciate.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Trailer is a Buffet of Comic Easter Eggs

This Spider-Man movie embraces a fresh start, and that includes a new director, Destin Daniel Cretton. The film is visually striking, with a beautifully simplified red-and-blue costume. The trailer’s imagery feels like it’s been lifted directly from the pages of a comic book, even resembling a comic book cover.
The trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is packed with references to classic Spider-Man comics, and that was intentional. It’s great to see so many nods to the villains and plot points from those older stories. Here are some of the Easter eggs included:
- Peter being cocooned is a direct reference to the cover of Marvel Knights: Spider-Man’s “The Other: Evolve or Die” (2004) #21.
- Spider-Man carrying a civilian mid-swing is a direct reference to the cover of Amazing Fantasy (1962) #15.
- The slowed, cinematic shot of Spider-Man versus Boomerang is a direct reference to the cover of The Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #345.
- The slowed, cinematic shot of Spider-Man versus Tarantula is a direct reference to the cover of The Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #134.
- The slowed, cinematic shot of Spider-Man battling the Hand is in reference to Avenging Spider-Man (2011) #6.
Finally, an MCU Spider-Man Movie for Comic Lovers

Fans are thrilled with the moments shown in the trailer. On X (formerly Twitter), user Luis Cantos praised the director, writing, “Destin Daniel Cretton is amazing. THANK YOU!” Another user, Pedro J. García, noticed a very subtle reference to a comic book and hopes it was intentional, calling it a potentially spectacular detail.
The trailer already shows a lot of inspiration from the comics, so the full movie, coming this summer, promises to be even more fun for comic fans. Hopefully, Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 and other upcoming Marvel projects will follow suit and draw heavily from their original comic book stories as well.
While the story isn’t a direct copy of any one comic book, it’s wonderful how much the visual look of Spider-Man: Brand New Day is inspired by the comics themselves.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 31, 2026.
