Why 1 Returning Star Trek: The Next Generation Star Was Disappointed by Picard Season 3’s Reunion

The final season of Picard not only gave Patrick Stewart a fitting farewell to his iconic character, but it also reunited much of the original cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Fan favorites like Worf, Data, Riker, Deanna Troi, Beverly Crusher, and Geordi La Forge all returned to conclude their storylines in a satisfying way. However, one longtime Star Trek actor believes the reunion wasn’t quite as successful as it could have been, and is now sharing their honest opinion. While another team-up of the Enterprise crew seems unlikely, this actor isn’t holding back.

Actress Marina Sirtis recently shared her experience reuniting with the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation on The Show People Podcast. While initially thrilled to reprise her role as Deanna Troi, she was disappointed by how much things had changed. Sirtis explained that the constant use of smartphones on set created a disconnected atmosphere. She felt it hindered the camaraderie they once shared, recalling how much they used to laugh and talk during their seven seasons together. She expressed sadness that people were more focused on their phones than interacting with each other, making the reunion feel very different and diminishing the sense of community she remembered.

A Tough Time For Trek

Marina Sirtis recently shared disappointing news for fans. During a conversation, the actress who plays Deanna Troi confirmed that the planned Star Trek spin-off, Legacy, won’t be moving forward. The show was expected to center on Picard’s son and his journey, but Sirtis indicated it’s unlikely to ever be made.

In a recent interview, Marina stated bluntly, “A continuation of Legacy is simply not going to happen.” She explained that no American studio would take the risk of creating a show with a primarily older cast—actors over 70—and acknowledged it’s an unpleasant reality, but that’s just how the entertainment industry works.

Even though Jean-Luc Picard’s story may be over, the world of Star Trek continues at Paramount. The show Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is currently airing its first season, set well after the events of Picard and The Next Generation. Good news for fans – a second season has already been filmed and confirmed, so we’ll be seeing this new group of characters for a while yet! While we don’t have a specific date, season two could arrive next year following the premiere of the first season.

I’ve been reading what Deanna Troi had to say about the Next Generation reunion, and it’s got me thinking! I’d love to hear your take on it too. Head over to the ComicBook Forum – let’s chat about it!
