Season 4 of Invincible subtly suggests who might take over as the main hero. The end of season 3 left Mark Grayson in a tough spot, both personally and for the world. Everyone was recovering from the devastating war against his alternate selves, and Mark was still dealing with the battles against Angstrom Levy and Conquest.
Even with the Coalition of Planets working against them, the powerful Viltrumite Emperor Thragg remains a major danger to Earth in Invincible. At the same time, Earth’s superhero team, the Guardians of the Globe, are still protecting the planet from various dangers, and one member is currently taking center stage.
By giving more attention to a long-time character on the Prime Video show Invincible, the story is hinting at who will eventually take over Mark Grayson’s role.
Invincible Season 4 Is Setting Up Bulletproof As The Next Invincible
Custom Image by Kyle McLeod
Bulletproof is a member of the Guardians of the Globe who hasn’t gotten as much attention as some other heroes, even though he’s incredibly powerful. Since he was introduced in season 2, Invincible has tended to focus more on characters like Monster Girl, Robot, and formerly, Rex Splode.
Season 4 of Invincible is giving more attention to characters like Bulletproof and Brit. In the first three episodes, we see Bulletproof working closely with Mark, as they have comparable powers. They even nearly teamed up to defeat the Sequid Invasion.
When Mark resolved to eliminate the last Sequid host, Bulletproof was among the few Guardians who agreed with the decision. This event sets the stage for Bulletproof’s future: he eventually takes on the role of Invincible. Following a period where Mark is unable to act, Bulletproof uses his comparable abilities to assist Atom Eve with Invincible Inc., becoming its new namesake.
Bulletproof’s growing prominence suggests he’s being positioned to take on a key role, especially since he shares similar strengths and beliefs with Mark. The series Invincible is already hinting at who will eventually succeed its main hero.
When Bulletproof Will Take Over As Invincible (According To The Comics)
This naturally leads to the question of when Bulletproof will become the new Invincible, considering the events in the original comics. The source material shows a similar moment of hesitation from Mark in issue 88, and we see the beginning of the Sequid Invasion in issue 70, which was adapted into season 4, episode 1 of the show.
The comic book’s Viltrumite War is expected to be a major part of Invincible season 4, and it’s likely we’ll see Bulletproof step into the hero role fully in season 5. If season 4 covers a significant portion of the war, it would be a powerful moment if Mark is seriously injured by the end of the season.
The show could give Invincible season 5 a new direction by having Mark recover while Bulletproof steps in as the new hero. While the next season might start before this happens, the comics suggest Bulletproof will eventually take over as Invincible, especially since season 6 will be the show’s final act.
Bulletproof Is One Of The Invincible TV Show’s Most Underused Characters
Bulletproof taking on the role of Invincible is a positive step for his character and an exciting turn for the series. He’s been a consistent presence as a Guardian of the Globe since season two, but the show hasn’t really given him a chance to shine on his own until now.
Despite being powerful, Bulletproof hasn’t had much screen time in the Invincible series, even compared to characters with smaller roles like Shapesmith. Hopefully, future seasons will give Bulletproof a chance to shine as the main hero, making up for his limited appearances so far.
