Jenna Bush Hager Wants to Play a Dead Body on Law & Order—Yes, Really

Jenna Bush Hager has an especially heinous dream role.

In reality, the host of Today with Jenna & Friends expressed eagerness to join the team if either Tony Goldwyn, the star of Law & Order, or its creator Dick Wolf required an additional cast member on their successful NBC crime series.

Jenna shared with Tony during the July 22nd episode of “Today with Jenna & Friends”, “If you need someone who’s playing a deceased character, I’d be happy to take on that role.

In response to Tony, who’s been a staple on the procedural drama since 2024, he offered, “Would you like some guidance? I wouldn’t recommend it.

As a devoted admirer, I’ve learned that Kerry Washington, the captivating star of Scandal, along with her esteemed Oscar-sharing cohost Octavia Spencer, both claimed to have “met their demise” on screen. However, it appears there’s more to these onscreen deaths than meets the eye.

Tony said, ‘You’ve been there for hours while others work nearby, but as soon as you feel like standing up after just 20 minutes, they tell you, ‘You still have 12 more hours to lie here.”

And that was a no for Jenna, who noted,  “That doesn’t sound good, never mind.”

It’s not just Jenna who craves the opportunity to portray a cold character, even Mariska Hargitay from “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” has expressed confusion about why this role is so sought after.

During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers in October, she disclosed an interesting fact about famous individuals: they desire to appear as deceased characters. This struck me when it happened with a supermodel. I approached the writers and suggested that she could be on the show, only to find out she wanted to play a dead body. However, I managed to secure a role for her instead.

Mariska remarked, “‘I contacted her,’ I explained, ‘Let me tell you, we’ve got it covered, you’re going to appear on the show.’ To which she replied, ‘Oh no, no, no, I prefer to be a corpse instead.’ It’s quite common. One might wonder why famous individuals shy away from dialogue.

In a 1996 episode, the character portrayed by the actress was a graduate student who experienced a romantic moment with Benjamin Bratt’s on-screen persona.

Prior to landing his breakthrough character in “Girls”, Driver previously featured in the final season of “Law & Order” (in 2010), portraying a lab technician who stood trial for the murder of an escort.

In 1999, during her relationship with actor Benjamin Bratt, she seldom appeared on TV, but when she did, it was as a party organizer entangled in the mysterious demise of a influential businessman.

Nearly 20 years ago, the Pam & Tommy star played a boy abducted and raised by his abuser in 2003.

At the start of her professional journey, the Academy Award winner made appearances on “Law & Order” in 1992 and 1994. In her debut, she embodied a character who was terrified to testify regarding a homicide. In the second and third seasons, an Academy Award-winning actor played distinct roles: one as a police officer and another as a relative implicated in the murder of a Chinese-American scholar.

In 1997, Rossum made her debut acting appearance in a role where she portrayed a young character who became the victim of female genital mutilation.

Back in ’94, I found myself utterly captivated by this Emmy-winning actress. You wouldn’t believe it, but in her debut TV performance, she portrayed a teenager who dared to claim a scandalous relationship with the new spouse of her allegedly murdered mother! Talk about making an entrance!

In a 1991 episode, the role of the defendant accused of both drug dealing and rape was taken by whom? (Continue reading…)

Initially appearing on TV, the eventual Academy Award recipient portrayed a traitorous drug dealer, with Samuel L. Jackson serving as his legal counsel in this particular role.

Prior to her lead role in My So-Called Life, the actress had already portrayed a troubled teenager in a 1992 episode, which also starred Lauren Ambrose, who would later become famous for her role in Six Feet Under.

In a 1999 installment, she portrays the role of a woman whose mother is a victim of domestic violence, assisting detectives Briscoe and Curtis in solving a case.

The Up In the Air star had a part in a 1998 episode about a shooting.

In a surprising turn of events, it’s worth noting that the actress from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ made an appearance not once, but twice on ‘Law & Order’. These appearances took place in 1996 and 2000. Interestingly enough, other cast members from ‘Grey’s’, including Kate Walsh and Chandra Wilson, have also worked on this series.

During the show’s first season, the actress played a woman who shoots two men in a subway.

In 1995, Peet played a woman involved in a mysterious case.

Decades before Grey’s Anatomy, Wilson played Serena Price for one 1992 episode.
