New Free FIFA Game Pits Greek God Zeus Against Argentinian Icon Diego Maradona, Will Come to PS5

After EA Sports said it would change its branding, FIFA promised a new game would follow, and now it’s here: FIFA Heroes, which is pretty much what everyone expected.

The game is launching first on mobile devices, with plans to release it on PlayStation later on. Players will be able to continue their progress seamlessly on any device that supports the game.

Okay, so this game is seriously cool! It’s a free-to-play football game with an arcade feel, and the best part? It throws together football legends with gods from history! It’s a really unique mix and I’m already hooked.

This means you’ll be able to play as Diego Maradona – famous for his ‘Hand of God’ goal – against the Norse God Thor. Characters based on mascots from previous World Cups will also be included in the game.

Here’s the official blurb:

Step into the world of FIFA Heroes and witness football greatness! See iconic players like Maradona take the field alongside FIFA World Cup mascots and a mix of legendary and current stars from the world’s most popular sporting event.

Get ready for quick, energetic 5-a-side soccer matches! Expect a fun, slightly unpredictable experience with relaxed rules and over-the-top action. Develop awesome skills, use special powers, and score incredible goals!

Assemble your dream team of stars and heroes! Show off your style and invite your friends to compete for epic highlights and the win!

Confirmed real-life footballers so far include:

  • Diego Maradona
  • Harry Kane
  • Jordan Pickford
  • Eduardo Camavinga
  • Jack Grealish
  • Emiliano MartĆnez
  • Lautaro MartĆnez

Honestly, an over-the-top, arcade-style football game sounds pretty fun – a lot of us have been hoping for something like a new FIFA Street ever since the PlayStation 3 era.

This feels like the obvious next step for the FIFA series, and while it might get some attention during the World Cup this summer, we don’t expect it to stay popular for very long.

The game is coming to mobile devices on April 28th, and a PlayStation 5 version is expected to be released sometime after that.

The game was initially announced as a Netflix offering, but it’s now uncertain if it will still be included. The latest announcement doesn’t mention anything about it being on Netflix.
