CI Games and Hexworks have shared a new gameplay video for Lords of the Fallen II as part of their ongoing developer series, “Lifting the Veil.” This footage was revealed in the ninth episode of the series.
So, I just watched a cool dev talk with the team behind the game. Ryan Hill, who’s a big creative lead, sat down with James Lowe (the game director), Daniel Regan (lead systems designer), and Alex Harkin (the producer). They were explaining how they’re taking the whole dual-realm thing from the first game and really upgrading it – they’re calling it ‘Umbral 2.0’. Apparently, a lot of the changes are based on what players like me said they wanted!
In Lords of the Fallen II, the Umbral realm will be a more dangerous and impactful presence, significantly influencing how the game unfolds for players.
Hill announced in a press release that Umbral, previously a place for the deceased, is now inhabited by the undead. He described how its old, damaged surface has been torn off, exposing a vulnerable core—a gaping wound filled with a powerful, new hunger.
Here are the latest details, via CI Games:
In Lords of the Fallen, players explore two distinct, yet connected, worlds using the Umbral Lamp. Axiom is a traditional dark fantasy land shaped by ages of epic battles and fallen civilizations. The Umbral realm is its terrifying counterpart – a twisted, nightmarish world where the rules of reality and even death itself are strange and unpredictable. While venturing into the Umbral realm can help players overcome challenges and find new locations, it also brings increasingly dangerous and surprising enemies that demand quick thinking and adaptability to survive.
Players of Lords of the Fallen II will find a much-improved way to explore the world of Umbral, with several key changes coming to how they interact with it.
- A Reimagined Otherworld – Radically different environments, key storytelling moments, and a new tendency to bleed into the mortal realm means that Umbral has never felt more alive and oppressive. A wider variety of biomes gives Umbral a more unique and mysterious character, providing players with more incentive to explore.
- Dread Redefined – Rather than a linear timer that increases the threat level of Umbral, the world is more influenced by player activity, creating a more organic, hostile sense of danger.
- Enemies Reshaped – Discover terrifying new entities lurking within Umbral’s shadows, capable of morphing into even deadlier forms, alongside a vastly expanded array of foes awaiting would-be Lampbearers.
The highly anticipated sequel, Lords of the Fallen II, is currently in development and available to add to your wishlist. This soulslike action-RPG takes place in a world overrun by ancient, evil gods, powerful magic, and relentless enemies. Set 1,000 years after the defeat of the demon god Adyr, a single kingdom remains, struggling against the undead forces of the dark realm called Umbral and its mysterious leader.
Playing as the Lampbearer, you can brutally dismember enemies and finish them off with powerful new executions in a fast-paced combat system. You’ll face a wider variety of enemies and epic boss battles that will challenge you whether you play alone or team up with friends through a seamless co-op experience where everyone progresses together.
The game Lords of the Fallen II is scheduled to be released in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC through the Epic Games Store.
