Olivia Munn Jokes How Her & John Mulaney’s Daughter Méi “Gaslit” Her

As 18-month-old Méi June, daughter of actor Zooey Deschanel and comedian John Mulaney, starts talking more and more, her growing vocabulary is leading to some adorable moments.

Let me tell you, navigating life with a toddler is…interesting! I was chatting with Olivia recently, and she perfectly described the experience. She explained that sometimes a ‘no’ really means no, but other times it…doesn’t! And honestly, if you can’t figure out which is which, prepare for a little meltdown – not from the toddler, but from you! It’s like constantly being kept second-guessing yourself, and she jokingly said it feels like you’re being gaslit all the time. As a lifestyle expert, I can definitely relate – it’s a real challenge to stay sane when you’re deciphering toddler logic!

The 45-year-old said with a laugh, “I feel like people are wondering what’s happening – I’m really giving it my all, but it still doesn’t seem to be enough.”

It’s not just Méi who’s displaying a strong personality! Olivia also mentioned that her and John’s son, Malcolm, 4, has been developing his sense of humor after joining his dad on the Mister Whatever tour earlier this year.

The comedian remembered wanting to be seen by the audience, exclaiming that he needed them to recognize him. He was shocked when the performer suddenly ran onstage, forcing John Mulaney to chase after him and physically carry him back. Later, the performer claimed that the audience, while applauding, wondered how John Mulaney had shrunk, not realizing it was him all along.

Malcolm’s funny side isn’t just for the stage. He actually made everyone laugh at his parents’ wedding in July 2024 with a spontaneous and hilarious joke.

John, 43, shared a funny story on Jimmy Kimmel Live! about his son’s behavior at their wedding. Apparently, when his son was two years old, he was wearing a tuxedo and shorts when he unexpectedly had an accident during the vows. John recalled the little boy proudly announcing, ‘I’m pooping!’ while covered in sweat.

The joyful times spent with the couple’s children are particularly meaningful right now, as Olivia continues to cope with the challenges of her breast cancer journey.

She shared a sweet video of her and her son, Malcolm, playing in a small pool, recalling a difficult time last summer. She’d already undergone three surgeries and was struggling with recovery, both emotionally and physically. She wrote on Instagram that these little, joyful moments always helped to brighten her spirits. She affectionately referred to him as ‘My Malcolm’.
