Fans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming live-action Gundam movie from Netflix, Legendary, and Bandai Namco Filmworks. This marks the first time the popular anime series has been brought to life in a live-action film, and it already stars Sydney Sweeney, Noah Centineo, and Michael Mando. Now, reports indicate that a well-known actor from Deadpool has joined the cast, adding even more excitement to the project.
I’m so excited to hear that Shioli Kutsuna is joining the live-action Gundam movie! You might recognize her as Yukio from both Deadpool 2 and the recent Deadpool & Wolverine – she’s fantastic! It’s cool to see her working with Netflix again too, after being in The Outsider and Murder Mystery. This will be their third project together, and I can’t wait to see what character she’ll be playing in Gundam!
The Long-Awaited Gundam Live-Action Film Seems To Finally Be Happening
Legendary and Bandai Namco Filmworks first revealed plans for a live-action Gundam movie in 2021, and the project has faced some changes since then. Jordan Vogt-Roberts, known for Kong: Skull Island, was originally set to direct, but he later left. After a period of no updates, Jim Mickle, the creator of Sweet Tooth, took over as director and is also writing the screenplay.
The project began to come together, and in January, Netflix won the bidding war. It’s unclear if Netflix will give this project a limited theatrical release before it streams, but it’s another big manga and anime franchise joining Netflix’s collection.
The film gained further attention with the announcements of Sweeney, Centineo, and Mando joining the cast. Now, with Kutsuna also on board, the main actors appear to be set. This is great news, as production is scheduled to begin in April. After a long development process, the live-action Gundam movie is finally moving forward.
