The Mandalorian & Grogu Movie: All 5 Types of Stormtroopers Confirmed To Appear

The upcoming Star Wars film, The Mandalorian & Grogu, won’t just feature standard Stormtroopers. It’s confirmed to include at least five different types of the iconic soldiers. Continuing the story from the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, starring Pedro Pascal, the movie takes place after Return of the Jedi. Even though the Empire has fallen, many of its supporters are still out there.

In most Star Wars movies, the heroes battle an army of soldiers called Stormtroopers, easily recognized by their distinctive helmets. Over time, different types of Stormtroopers have appeared, such as the Dark Troopers, who were first shown in the series The Mandalorian.

When The Mandalorian & Grogu hits theaters on May 22nd, audiences can expect to see a variety of Stormtroopers, including both classic designs and some new ones. Merchandise revealed on X (formerly Twitter) by Mandoverse Updates shows at least five different types of Imperial soldiers who will be in the movie, showcasing several unique helmet styles on a film-related T-shirt.

Stormtrooper Types That Will Appear in The Mandalorian & Grogu

Stormtrooper

Even though the Empire is gone, Stormtroopers still show up frequently in The Mandalorian & Grogu. The iconic white helmet was among the first items released as merchandise, suggesting they’ll continue to be a common presence. Interestingly, these Stormtroopers look like the ones from the original Star Wars trilogy, not the updated versions from the sequel films, emphasizing they are remnants of the old Empire, not the newer First Order.

Snowtrooper

Trailers for The Mandalorian & Grogu feature several scenes with snow, and a recent Super Bowl trailer suggested the show will revisit the famous icy planet Hoth.

Snowy landscapes introduce new challenges, including new enemies. The Imperials counter this with Snowtroopers – soldiers equipped for cold weather. These troopers have a distinctive design, including a rounded helmet and a thick bandana that covers their nose, mouth, and neck to protect them from the freezing temperatures.

Imperial Remnant Snowtrooper

A new type of Stormtrooper, the Imperial Remnant Snowtrooper, will appear in The Mandalorian & Grogu. This character was recently shown in merchandise for the show and, as the name indicates, is part of the remaining Imperial army.

This is evident in the character’s appearance: the Imperial Snowtrooper’s helmet is damaged and missing the usual white cloth covering the lower part of the face.

Imperial Remnant AT-AT Driver

The massive AT-AT walkers were prominently featured in trailers for The Mandalorian & Grogu, with one shown dramatically falling off a snowy cliff in a spectacular scene. First appearing in The Empire Strikes Back, these iconic vehicles have returned throughout the series due to the franchise’s love of action involving AT-ATs.

The upcoming season of The Mandalorian & Grogu will include AT-AT drivers, and early looks show their vehicles are worn down, reflecting the state of the remaining Imperial forces. The drivers’ helmets resemble classic Stormtrooper designs, but feature a prominent black bar and faded red Imperial symbols, indicating age and disrepair.

Imperial Remnant AT-RT Driver

We’ve seen AT-RT drivers in Star Wars before, but this version is new. These drivers are recognizable by their helmets, which have visors, sharp angles on the sides, and a vertical oval opening for the mouth. Unlike previous AT-RT drivers geared for forests, this trooper appears equipped for snowy environments, suggesting they’ll be part of the Imperial forces featured in snow scenes.

As a big Star Wars fan, I’ve seen a lot of Stormtroopers, and honestly, the ones in The Mandalorian & Grogu look a little rough around the edges. The design on this T-shirt really captures that—the helmet looks properly weathered, like it’s actually seen some action. It’s not the bright, shiny white you often see; it’s covered in dirt and scratches, which I think adds a lot of character.

Okay, so things are looking rough for the Empire in The Mandalorian & Grogu, but honestly, it’s not just them we need to worry about. It seems Din and Grogu are going to have their hands full with all sorts of bad guys as they try to stop some seriously evil forces from coming back. It’s shaping up to be a pretty intense ride!
