Suzanna Somers’ widower has found love amid his grief.

Alan Hamel openly shared that he has developed feelings for Joanna Cassidy, his co-star from “Hollywood Wives,” approximately 20 months after Suzanne, the actress from “Three’s Company,” passed away following a long struggle with cancer.

88-year-old Alan expressed his gratitude for having Joanna in his life during an interview with Page Six on June 25. He added that most men would envy the prospect of having someone like Joanna in their lives. Although he’s unsure about the future direction of this relationship, he’s certain that he is fortunate to have a wonderful family, which includes Suzanne’s contributions, a fulfilling life, and a successful business that they built 50 years ago.

But while his romance with Joanna is new, they actually go way back.

For more than four decades, I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Joanna Cassidy. Back in the 70s, she appeared as a guest on a Canadian talk show called ‘The Alan Hamel Show.’ We hit it off during that time, not romantically, but with mutual respect. Interestingly, we were both married then.

Alan acknowledges his current relationship and also credits it to his son, Stephen Hamel, whom he co-parents with his first wife, Marilyn Hamel. This relationship began after the death of his former spouse Suzanne in October 2023.

Alan shared, “At a movie event, my son encountered Joanna and, following a lengthy discussion, he proposed that Joanna and I might hit it off and suggested a meeting between us. Here’s the twist: Stephen was unaware that we were already acquainted.

In terms of embarking on a fresh relationship following more than four decades with Suzanne, Alan made it clear that the actress from “Step by Step” encouraged him to embrace new beginnings.

He remembered being told by his late wife, “Don’t dwell on sadness. Live your days well. I’ll meet you again when you pass to the other side.

After his wife’s passing in 2023, Alan has consistently emphasized the significant influence she had on their family, a family comprising her son Bruce Somers Jr., whom she had with her first husband Bruce Somers, as well as their daughter Leslie Hamel, who was shared with Alan.

In October 2024, he expressed to Today that she was a truly exceptional woman. Beyond her numerous achievements, she was an extraordinary wife and mother. She was the one who united our family, not me. It was her doing, and she had a knack for it. I will certainly miss her.
