The third season of Jujutsu Kaisen just finished with a thrilling finale, and it finally revealed the full extent of Yuta Okkotsu’s incredible cursed technique. We first met Yuta in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, where he was established as a powerful sorcerer due to his connection with the spirit Rika and the large amount of cursed energy it granted him. However, at the end of that film, Rika passed on. This made his reappearance in the main Jujutsu Kaisen anime confusing, as he still seemed just as strong as before.
Season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen has focused on Yuta, who continues to fight alongside Rika and maintains a large amount of cursed energy even though he seemingly lost access to her. The season finale revealed that Yuta has developed his own unique cursed technique since the events of Jujutsu Kaisen 0. This technique allows him to copy the abilities of others, but it has limitations.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Confirms Yuta’s Cursed Technique Is Copy
In the final episode of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, as Yuta battles the three most powerful figures in the Sendai Colony, the show reveals details about his current powers. Although it appears he has the same abilities as before with Rika, that’s not quite right. The Rika spirit he’s currently using isn’t the original, but rather a construct formed from the cursed energy stored within him – a lingering effect of his technique after Rika’s spirit moved on.
He spent two years rebuilding his cursed energy, but using it has specific limitations. When he wears the ring Rika gave him, he can use his true cursed technique – a complete version of Rika herself – and access a large amount of energy she provides, for five minutes. This makes sense because his technique is actually called “Copy,” allowing him to use abilities he’s taken from previous enemies and allies.
Yuta Can Copy Any Cursed Technique, But There Are Drawbacks

During the battle, Yuta repeatedly uses copies of different cursed energy abilities, even mimicking Toge Inumaki’s unique speech. However, it was only when he copied the abilities of the recently defeated Dhruv Lakdawalla that it became clear he could fully replicate others’ techniques. This copying ability seems to have a specific requirement: Rika, the spirit within Yuta, needs to consume a part of the original user. We see this happen when Rika eats Takako Uro’s arm, allowing Yuta to then copy her technique soon after.
With confirmation of Yuta’s skill and his ability to quickly learn and use copied techniques, it’s easy to understand why Satoru Gojo thinks so highly of him. Gojo has often joked that Yuta could protect the world while he’s away, and even suggested Yuta might be stronger than him – this copying ability really highlights that potential. In a pinch, Yuta could even copy Gojo’s own powers, and his quick thinking more than compensates for any raw power he might lack.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Yuta in the upcoming fourth season of Jujutsu Kaisen. What are your thoughts? Share them in the comments below and join the discussion on the ComicBook Forum!
