He can’t actually travel through time, but he has this incredible – and probably difficult – ability to see a whole year into the future. It sounds fascinating!

Both 12 Monkeys and The World Jones Made explore the idea of whether antagonists are genuinely evil or simply misguided by their beliefs. The World Jones Made also examines how precognition can initially seem like a simple spectacle before becoming a tool for a powerful, manipulative leader.

The new Netflix sci-fi series, if faithful to the source material, promises a complex look at its main character, Jones – is he a hero or a villain? This exploration of good and evil echoes the way 12 Monkeys presented the difficult choices faced by its time travelers.

Often, TV shows based on great movies feel like a stretch and aren’t really needed. But the series 12 Monkeys is a standout – it successfully expands on the ideas from the original film while also creating its own unique story. Rather than simply copying the movie’s style and gloomy outlook, the show evolves into a complex, multi-generational thriller about a sprawling conspiracy.

As a movie lover, what really struck me about this show is how brilliantly it all comes full circle. Things they set up way back in the first season actually matter in the finale – it’s incredibly satisfying! And honestly, there isn’t a single episode that feels unnecessary. I’ve noticed the show, like the original movie, really knows how to use humor. The movie had Brad Pitt’s character for that, and the show has Emily Hampshire as Jennifer Goines. Honestly, she makes the best episodes – she’s the heart and soul of them, in my opinion.

Stories about time travel often have confusing plot holes, but the show 12 Monkeys is different. It carefully follows its own rules and avoids contradictions, resulting in a consistently logical and believable storyline.
