*Warning: Spoilers for Monday 30 March episode of Coronation Street, available now on ITVX.*
Please be aware that this article discusses sensitive topics like domestic abuse and controlling behavior, which may be disturbing for some readers.
In Coronation Street, Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) found himself trapped with his abusive husband, Theo Silverton (James Cartwright), on March 30th, even though George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) tried to help him.
George was very worried about Todd, whom he considers like a son, after confiding his concerns about Theo’s actions to Sarah Platt and Summer Spellman.
Sarah shared with Gary Windass (Mikey North), Theo’s boss, several instances suggesting Theo was abusing Todd. Gary then saw how frightened Todd had become and warned Theo he was being monitored.
At the construction site, Gary gave Theo his tools and fired him. Theo angrily argued, and Gary threatened him. Meanwhile, George went to see Todd by himself at his apartment.

George gave Todd a bag packed with essentials, explaining it contained everything he’d need to leave quickly. He lovingly promised to take care of Todd.
Just as Theo texted saying he was heading home, a worried Todd quickly led George away, but not before George managed to hide the bag.
When Theo asked Todd about George’s presence, Todd brushed George off as a nuisance and swiftly changed the conversation to their upcoming move to Belfast, hoping to keep Theo happy.
George stopped by the corner shop and noticed how silent the apartment upstairs was – he knew Todd was struggling. He wondered if Todd would ask for help.
Coronation Street has partnered with Galop to accurately show abusive dynamics in LGBTQ+ relationships, and with Stonewall to portray the lasting effects of conversion therapy.
