Darth Vader is a truly iconic Star Wars character, known for his unforgettable battles and powerful scenes. While many of his most famous moments happened in the original trilogy, he’s had several standout appearances in more recent Star Wars films and TV shows, like the dramatic hallway fight in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and his intense duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
We’ve seen some fantastic Darth Vader fight scenes in recent Star Wars TV shows, including animated series. A particularly memorable duel, which originally aired on Star Wars Rebels ten years ago today, on March 30, 2016, stands out as one of his best. It’s impressive both for its exciting action and its importance to the story.
Star Wars Rebels’ “Twilight of the Apprentice” Duel Was A Masterpiece

The second season of Rebels ended with a special two-part finale, titled “Twilight of the Apprentice: Part I” and “Twilight of the Apprentice: Part 2.” Throughout the season, the story led to a long-awaited showdown between Ahsoka Tano and her old teacher, Anakin Skywalker, who had become the villain Darth Vader. Ahsoka hadn’t known Anakin was still alive, and learning he was now Darth Vader came as such a shock that she fainted.
The truth about their past and the unresolved conflict between Vader and Ahsoka finally led to a dramatic battle. Ahsoka surprisingly landed several blows on Vader, even cracking his mask – something Obi-Wan would later accomplish as well. Despite knowing how the story ends, it briefly seemed like Ahsoka might be able to reach the Anakin Skywalker still inside him.
Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out well, and Vader told Ahsoka she would die – a cruel twist considering Anakin’s earlier promises to protect her before his fall. The duel was not only exciting to watch but also deeply moving. Ahsoka had been struggling with the pain and regret from Order 66 and leaving the Jedi, and this confrontation forced her to finally face those difficult memories.
Ahsoka And Anakin’s Relationship Became Pivotal

Ahsoka has become a fan-favorite Star Wars character, gaining popularity since she first appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Initially, her introduction wasn’t well-received, as many fans believed Anakin Skywalker didn’t need a Padawan learner. However, over the seven seasons of The Clone Wars, Ahsoka profoundly impacted Anakin’s journey. Specifically, the Jedi Council’s handling of her false accusation of murder and her subsequent decision to leave the Jedi Order were key factors contributing to Anakin’s turn to the dark side.
When the Jedi Council left Ahsoka to face trouble on her own, Anakin lost a lot of trust in them. This made his existing relationships, especially his love for Padmé, even stronger. Even after Anakin’s death, Ahsoka remains an important figure, and her connection to him continues. For example, in The Book of Boba Fett, she helped Luke Skywalker train a new generation of Jedi and pointed out how much he resembled his father.
In the recent series Ahsoka, Anakin Skywalker made a comeback. He first appeared in a mysterious realm called the World Between Worlds, where he gave Ahsoka a crucial lesson about facing life and death. Later, in the season finale, he showed up as a Force Ghost on the planet Peridea, observing Ahsoka and Sabine Wren. This development officially sets the stage for another on-screen meeting between Anakin and Ahsoka, which has already been announced.
This Master And Apprentice Have At Least One More Story

Filming for Ahsoka season 2 is finished, and it’s likely to be released later this year. This season will likely give us another look at Anakin and Ahsoka together, and possibly for the last time. The first season ended by showing Anakin as a Force Ghost on the planet Peridea. While it wasn’t certain they’d share screen time again, Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker in the new season, making a direct interaction between the two very probable.
It’s still unclear exactly what this story will be about. While there’s been talk that the Mortis Gods—powerful figures from The Clone Wars who embody balance in the Force—will play a key role in the new season, that’s just speculation right now. However, fans can likely expect to see Ahsoka and Anakin Skywalker (as a Force Ghost) share the screen again, possibly with more meaningful interactions than we saw previously.
