Jenna Ortega’s $137M Entry in Iconic Horror Franchise To Stream on Netflix

The highly anticipated follow-up to a classic horror series, starring Jenna Ortega, is coming to Netflix soon. Set over twenty years after the first movie, the film features both new faces and returning cast members who helped make the original a huge success.

Scream begins streaming on Netflix in April

The latest Scream movie, released in 2022, will be available to stream on Netflix starting Friday, April 10, 2026. This installment continues the story from Scream 4 (2011) and also brings back characters from the very first Scream film from 1996.

The 2022 film is set 11 years after the events of Scream 4. It centers on Sam Carpenter, who rushes back to Woodsboro when her sister, Tara, is attacked by Ghostface. Sam later reveals a shocking secret: she’s the daughter of Billy Loomis, the original killer from the first film. As the body count rises, Sam, Tara, and their friends join forces with returning heroes Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers, and Dewey Riley to find out who is behind the new Ghostface mask.

The film stars Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Jack Quaid, and several other talented actors.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett directed the movie, working from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Originally, Wes Craven, who directed the first four films in the series, was intended to direct a fifth installment. However, after his death in 2015 and the collapse of The Weinstein Company, Spyglass Media Group purchased the rights to the film in 2019.

The movie was released in theaters on January 14, 2022, and critics generally liked it. It received a 76% approval rating from 300 critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and audiences gave it an 82% rating based on over 2,500 reviews. Metacritic gave it an average critic score of 60 and a user score of 6.7. The film also performed very well financially, earning $137.7 million worldwide on a budget of $24 million (according to Box Office Mojo).

A direct sequel to the film, titled Scream VI, came out in March 2023. It was better received by audiences and also made more money at the box office.
