Game Pass currently has three subscription options, but Microsoft seems to be working on a fourth. A data miner, Redphx, discovered references to this new tier, codenamed “Triton,” in project files. It appears Triton will be a more affordable option, offering access to games made by studios owned by Xbox Game Studios.
This Game Pass tier includes titles like DOOM 64, Psychonauts, Retro Classics, DOOM Eternal, Dishonored 2, Fable Anniversary, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Gears 5, Halo 5, Halo Wars 2, Hellblade, Ori and the Blind Forest, State of Decay 2, and The Elder Scrolls Online. Because the list only features games made by Microsoft, this tier appears to be designed for players who are primarily interested in Microsoft’s own games.
Microsoft hasn’t officially announced a new Game Pass option yet, but recent reports suggest one might be coming. The new head of Microsoft Gaming, Asha Sharma, reportedly wants to make Game Pass appealing to more people, possibly by offering cheaper subscription levels. Sources also say Sharma has been talking to Netflix about a possible deal to combine their subscriptions.
According to Peters, any successful collaboration needs to benefit both the customer and the companies involved. He believes Microsoft is still working out how to best leverage the Game Pass subscription service for its own goals, but he’s impressed with Asha’s approach, which focuses on expansion and has already shown promising results.
Microsoft launched different subscription levels for Game Pass in October 2025. The most comprehensive option, Game Pass Ultimate, cost $30 monthly. They also offered a Premium tier for $15 a month and a basic Game Pass Essential plan for $10 a month.
Many people reacted negatively to the recent price increase for Game Pass, including Laura Fryer, a founding member of Microsoft Game Studios. She publicly criticized the change, stating it prioritized profit over the enjoyment of gaming.
She expressed concern that Xbox’s current leaders don’t seem to grasp what has historically made the platform successful. She also feels they aren’t paying attention to what their fans want, and continue to make choices that suggest they’re out of touch. It seems like they aren’t receiving or acting on user feedback.
In her video, she explained that Xbox didn’t improve by building something new; instead, they simply stopped supporting what they already had and tried to compete in areas they didn’t fully grasp. She believes the recent price increase for Game Pass has eliminated one of Xbox’s key strengths – being the most affordable option for gamers – and feels like a disappointing move driven by profit rather than a focus on gaming.
The new Game Pass program, called “TRION”, seems to only feature games published by Xbox Studios. Here’s a list of the games included: DOOM Eternal, Dishonored 2, Fable Anniversary, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Gears 5, Halo 5, Halo Wars 2, Hellblade, Ori and the Blind Forest, State of Decay 2, and The Elder Scrolls Online.
