Jeff Ross is mourning his friend Alex Duong.
The comedian paid tribute to his fellow performer from Jeff Ross Presents Roast Battle online after Alex passed away on March 28th at 42, following a year-long fight with a rare cancer.
Jeff shared on Instagram on March 29th that the Roast Battle and Comedy Store communities are deeply saddened by the loss of Dapper Duong, saying they loved him.
The 60-year-old also mentioned Alex’s wife, Christina Duong—who shares 5-year-old daughter Everest with him—and included a heart emoji. She also shared a link to a GoFundMe page created to help cover Alex’s medical bills.
Along with his tribute, Jeff included a photo of himself smiling with Alex, Christina and Everest.
In April, the Los Angeles Times published a profile detailing Alex’s battle with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and fast-growing cancer that impacts soft tissues. The cancer eventually caused him to lose sight in his left eye, as reported in the profile.
Hilarie Steele, a friend of the late actor from Blue Bloods, was the first to share the news of his death on social media.
It’s with such a heavy heart that I share the news of Alex’s passing. He died peacefully this morning, surrounded by the people who loved him most. I’m so relieved to know he was comfortable and finally free from pain. It’s a huge loss, and I’m thinking of everyone who knew and loved him.
Christina and Everest visited him last night, and he was awake enough to say goodbye to his daughter, who meant the world to him since the day she was born. We’re heartbroken, but incredibly thankful for all the support, prayers, and kindness everyone has shown us during this difficult time.
Before he died, Alex often spoke about how much the comedy world helped him through his fight with cancer.

Comedians support each other through tough times because they understand the challenges of the profession,” he explained to the Los Angeles Times. “It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to pursue comedy and get better, and it’s inspiring to see that camaraderie.”
