More Industry Concerns as Indie Dev Forced to Close Over Lack of Funding

Ivy Road, the team that created Wanderstop, is unfortunately closing on March 31st, 2026. They weren’t able to get the necessary funding to begin work on their next game.

The developer described the current gaming market as difficult for securing funding, explaining that they weren’t able to find a publisher for their new game idea. The game, called Engine Angel, seems to be a fast-paced action title focused on vehicle combat.

The developers said it’s currently difficult to secure funding for games, so while they anticipated it, they’re sad to announce they won’t be able to finish ‘Engine Angel’ as a team, according to a statement on their website.

The team’s first game, Wanderstop, will stay available everywhere, and they have one final gift planned for players. Annapurna Interactive, who published the game, will share details about this surprise later on.

Creating games is really tough – it takes technical expertise, a lot of dedication, money, countless hours, and even a little bit of good fortune, the team explained in their farewell message.

Wanderstop came out on PS5 a little over a year ago and we gave it a solid 8/10 in our quick review. We especially liked how it blended different game types with a heartwarming story, creating a relaxing and immersive experience – exactly what many players look for when they want to unwind and de-stress.
