7 Unforgettable Obi-Wan Kenobi Scenes in Star Wars That Are a Perfect 10/10

Obi-Wan Kenobi is a hugely popular and powerful Jedi in the Star Wars universe, and as a result, he’s featured in many memorable moments. He’s appeared in a lot of Star Wars content, starting with the original movies, continuing through the prequels, then as a central character in all seven seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and most recently in his own series, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

It’s hard to choose Obi-Wan Kenobi’s greatest moments – he’s faced some incredible challenges! From defeating Darth Maul to taking down General Grievous and even holding his own against Darth Vader on several occasions, he’s consistently proven his skill. But looking back at his entire journey in the Star Wars saga, seven scenes really stand out as his best.

7) Obi-Wan’s Mos Eisley Cantina Scuffle

At number seven on our list is an early scene from A New Hope (originally known as Star Wars). It’s when Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan begin their mission to rescue Princess Leia and enter the Mos Eisley Cantina. Obi-Wan warns Luke it’s a dangerous place, filled with “a wretched hive of scum and villainy,” but Luke quickly gets into a fight with someone at the bar after not being careful enough.

Viewers finally witnessed a lightsaber in use, as Obi-Wan famously severed someone’s arm. This instantly became an iconic moment and ranks among the best scenes in Star Wars because it established a lasting trend: characters losing limbs. The franchise has frequently featured dismemberment ever since.

6) Obi-Wan Versus Maul In Star Wars Rebels

The next significant event is Obi-Wan Kenobi’s last fight with Darth Maul, which happened in Star Wars Rebels. Maul was the first big villain Obi-Wan faced on screen—if you follow the timeline of the stories, not the order the movies came out—and it originally looked like Maul killed him in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. However, The Clone Wars showed that Maul actually survived, even after losing his legs, and he returned seeking revenge.

This sparked a long-lasting feud between Maul and Kenobi, first explored in The Clone Wars and ultimately resolved in Rebels. Maul finally tracked down Obi-Wan on Tatooine, leading to a final duel where he was defeated for good. What’s remarkable about this scene is Obi-Wan’s calm demeanor; instead of anger, he compassionately cradles Maul as he dies, demonstrating the depth of his Jedi character.

5) The Vader Showdown in Obi-Wan Kenobi

When Obi-Wan Kenobi first came out, it received a lot of criticism, with many viewers feeling it wasn’t needed or that it didn’t feature Obi-Wan enough. Despite this, the show delivered some truly memorable Star Wars moments, especially the climactic duel between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan. This battle showcased amazing lightsaber combat and the incredible power of the Force.

Perhaps even more powerfully, this scene offered a sense of resolution to the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan damaged Vader’s mask, similar to how Ahsoka Tano had done previously. This led to a heartfelt apology from Obi-Wan, but Vader surprisingly assured him that he had killed Anakin, not Obi-Wan. This gave Obi-Wan the closure he needed and smoothly transitioned the story into the events of A New Hope.

4) “These Aren’t the Droids You’re Looking For”

The scene with Obi-Wan Kenobi saying, “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for” – a memorable moment from A New Hope – is also where he first demonstrates the Jedi mind trick. He uses this power to convince the stormtroopers to let him and Luke pass, setting a key example for how the Force would be used throughout the Star Wars saga. The mind trick remains one of the most recognizable Force powers in the franchise.

Throughout the Star Wars saga, the Jedi mind trick has remained incredibly popular – arguably as much as iconic abilities like Jedi telekinesis or Darth Vader’s Force choke. Even as Jedi powers have expanded in movies and shows, this mind trick has consistently stood out.

3) Obi-Wan’s Death at The Hands of Darth Vader

Although Obi-Wan’s death in A New Hope is a sad moment, it’s also considered one of his most important scenes because it reveals a lot about who he is. We learn that Obi-Wan had fought Anakin/Vader several times before, including the intense battle on Mustafar in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and the duel shown in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Throughout these encounters, Obi-Wan consistently defeated Anakin.

Even though Obi-Wan died in A New Hope, it wasn’t a defeat at the hands of Darth Vader. Obi-Wan intentionally allowed Vader to kill him, choosing to become one with the Force. He even predicted this would happen, telling Vader that his death would make him more powerful as a Force Ghost. This was a fitting end for Obi-Wan – dying by Vader’s hand, but still maintaining control and proving his mastery as a Jedi.

2) The Duel of the Fates

Okay, let’s be real: the lightsaber fight between Darth Maul, Qui-Gon, and Obi-Wan in The Phantom Menace is legendary. It’s consistently ranked as one of the greatest duels in all of Star Wars, and honestly, it’s a standout scene for the entire franchise. So, it makes total sense that it’s also one of Ewan McGregor’s absolute best moments as Obi-Wan. It really showcases everything he brought to the role.

The action is wonderfully planned and always exciting to watch, especially with the music. But this scene is incredibly important for Obi-Wan’s development—it’s where he really becomes a Jedi Knight, defeating a Sith and witnessing the death of his Master. It also features some of his best lightsaber fighting, though one scene is even better.

1) The Battle on Mustafar

For me, the absolute best Obi-Wan Kenobi moment in all of Star Wars has to be his lightsaber fight with Anakin/Darth Vader on Mustafar in Revenge of the Sith. It’s not just an incredible duel – one of the best in the entire franchise, really – but the setting is amazing, and more importantly, it’s where everything comes crashing down. It’s the emotional high point of the whole prequel trilogy, and it just hits so hard.

The battle between the former master and apprentice, who were also close friends, is incredibly tragic and likely the most defining moment in their relationship. It showcases Obi-Wan at his strongest, ultimately defeating Anakin – now fully consumed by the dark side – leaving him severely injured and broken.
