Crimson Desert’s Core Development Team Has Moved on to Work on DokeV, Says CEO

Pearl Abyss, the company behind the game Crimson Desert, has moved its main development team to work on DokeV. CEO Heo Jin-young told Inven that with Crimson Desert now released, the team can now work faster on DokeV.

Although Pearl Abyss hasn’t announced a specific release date for DokeV, CEO Jin-young estimates it will take roughly two to three years to finish development and refine the game. This timeframe isn’t unexpected, considering DokeV has undergone significant changes and faced multiple delays throughout its development.

DokeV was originally announced in 2019. Though many details are still unclear, Pearl Abyss previously explained that the game centers around players searching for Dokebi – unique creatures powered by dreams. A gameplay trailer was also released in 2021.

Back in 2022, Jin-young stated that both DokeV and Crimson Desert were planned for release that year. He explained that development of both games was on track internally, but the main team was currently focused on Crimson Desert. They promised to share more information about DokeV as it became available. A report in 2024 then suggested both games would launch in the fiscal year 2025, but that timeframe has now passed without either game being released.

So, the big news is Crimson Desert is almost at 5 million copies sold! Jin-young just let us know, and honestly, it’s awesome. They’re really pushing to hit that 5 million mark and share the good news with everyone involved, and they’re promising to work their tails off to make it happen before the year’s out. As a player, that’s really encouraging to hear – it means they’re committed to supporting the game!

Pearl Abyss is exploring the possibility of bringing Crimson Desert to the Nintendo Switch 2 to reach more players. However, the Switch’s less powerful hardware presents a challenge. According to Jin-young, they’d likely need to make some compromises in terms of graphics or features. Despite this, the studio has started early research and development to see if a Switch version is feasible.

Jin-young addressed concerns about the story in Crimson Desert, admitting it wasn’t strong. He explained this was due to their team’s limitations, and that they prioritized improving the game’s gameplay, hoping to create a more compelling narrative in future projects.

I’m so excited about the latest Crimson Desert update! They’ve added five new permanent mounts, which is awesome, and it’s way easier to fly around now because they’ve lowered stamina usage. If you haven’t checked out this open-world game yet, it’s available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. I really enjoyed it – you can find my full review if you’re curious!
